We had a great opportunity there, and (Cardinals starter Mark) Mulder, he got out of it, ... We're just not cashing in at this point. The double-play ball killed us.

The way he works is phenomenal, between him and [Game 2 starter Mark] Mulder and [Matt] Morris, they get out there and throw. Defensively, we're not on our heels, ever. If people could see that, and other pitchers can understand what that means to us defensively, it's a huge lift.

I think he'll be a starter ---- it's just when will he be a starter? There's no doubt he's got the skill set to play out there. It's just looking for that break, that opportunity. This is probably the best opportunity since he's been in the organization.

[They've grounded into an NL-high 106 double plays, including four during a 6-0 loss to the Cardinals last week.] I know one thing, ... When this thing is over, some of our guys will know what a double-play pitch looks like.

The Cardinals gave me the opportunity to play here, so I'm going to give 100 percent and try do a great job. I think it's going to be (made) easier because our pitchers, they're good.

It's something we thought about as long as two months ago. We didn't expect Dan to come in and wear No. 21 and pitch like Mark Mulder. He's done a tremendous job. I guess it's fitting he picked up where Mark left off. You've got a double-play ball if he catches it or lets it go. Then Tucker's ball hit his foot. If it was a double play, we wouldn't have run into all that other trouble. We had one bad inning in three days. We played good baseball here.

With Mark Blount at the high post, I don't think teams can double- and triple-team Kevin as much. I think Mark Blount and Eddie (Griffin, the starter) both will give us that two-headed center at the high post that will keep them from sagging off on Kevin.

I think we hit the ball real hard today again. The hardest-hit ball turned into a double play. If that ball gets by, we score runs. Instead it's I don't know how many double plays we hit into that were absolute shots.

We just wanted to come out and compete and play. I think also it's more of a measuring stick for our guys. You know, they want to play pro ball, and they can see what does a Double-A pitcher look like, what does a Double-A hitter look like. And my guys always get a kick out of it. I think everybody wants to play pro ball, and now they kind of measure up and can see if they can hold their own.

It would have worked out great. Nobody would have been able to double team Tyler because Sean would have killed them, and no would have been able to double team Sean because we would have Tyler. We would have two power forwards and been able to play David (Noel) at small forward.

The Cardinals thing, I don't really know if I could sign with them, to be honest with you. If the Cardinals and White Sox came in and said, 'Here, five years for the same amount of money' or slightly apart, I don't know if I could sign with the Cardinals. There's a lot of stuff that comes with that, a lot of distractions. I've talked to people that play in their hometown, and they say it's almost too big of a distraction.

We missed the opportunity on some screen passes early to get him the ball. After that, they double covered him and that left others open. But we have to be prepared to find ways to get Seth the ball. No matter how much double covering him helps our running game or leaves other receivers open, we still have to get him the ball and make people defend the whole field.

It was tremendous -- great players making a great play. I needed a double play. I tried to make sure that if he hit the ball, he hit it at somebody in the infield.

Certainly, you're not going to able to go and pull a Mark Mulder out of your hat somewhere,
