 There was so much more to Reggie than just football. I can remember coming in as a freshman, and here's this big defensive lineman having Bible study on the fourth floor of Gibbs Hall. He was always trying to get the younger guys to see that there was more to all this than just going to school and playing football.

 Reggie White is one of the finest players and human beings ever to play in the National Football League, and he is most deserving of being elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He is certainly one of the top players in the long history of the league. Reggie was more than a great football player. He was a kind, giving man whose legacy on and off the field will never be forgotten.

 Being a defensive lineman, Reggie is one of the guys I always watched. And he was an inspiration off the field, too. We lost a great football player today, and we lost a great citizen.

 A school without football is in danger of deteriorating into a medieval study hall.

 It's a hurtful loss, but that's part of playing football. Any time you lose a defensive lineman, that hurts you.

 [He also played football and basketball at the Shelton School, playing on varsity as a freshman.] Shelton had a good football team, ... But the program wasn't as big as Sherman.

 We believe in Reggie as a person and as a player. We checked into the allegations. We talked to Reggie and his mother about it. This was a football decision. It had nothing to do with anything other than football.

 We had Jose McDermott at running back the other day, and he did all right. Drew was a star in youth football, but he's a bit undersized for high school football. He has the potential of becoming a real good lineman. He just needs to continue to work on his strength.

 He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. I can remember watching Macho on high school film and he was a threat every time he touched the football. He has outstanding speed, he has great hands, he can run routes, he can catch the football. and he can run with the football. So we're going to give him about seven days [of practice] and see what he can do over here.

 That's a huge loss. First, it's another defensive lineman. Second, a starting defensive lineman. Third, he is a second year player who keeps getting better and, fourth, he has great size and movement.

 These kids are the future of the National Football League. They're the next generation that will be playing high school football, NCAA football, and some even to the pros.

 There are a lot of different ways to categorize leaders. There are guys who are good football players who haven't done so well in the hall. There are some guys who do great in the hall who may not be very good football players.

 I think he's as good a lineman as there is in college football. He plays so hard, consistently. I think an awful lot of Larry and he can do anything he wants in football. I just know there's not an overabundance of guys that play as hard as he does and have the athleticism and want-to that he does.

 Playing football gives me a reason to study. For me good grades equal football.

 Reggie was one of those guys who represented all that is good about football and athletics. He was a man of great principle, who obviously carried his faith out front. I don't know if there's any one person, in my time as a football coach, whom I've had much admiration and respect for. Even though he was sometimes outspoken, even to the point of being controversial, he always said and did what he believed was the right thing.
