en The defensive area I think investors can go into during times of volatility are utility stocks, (as well as) growth stocks such as drugs, food and tobacco. Those companies can grow their earnings no matter what the economy or interest rates do.

en It's basically a defensive strategy. Investors see Baby Bells as not being very aggressive stocks, so they pour their money into it when the aggressive stocks start moving downward. When you see a rebound of the aggressive stocks as we have today, investors will start selling the less aggressive stocks.

en Hillenbrand Industries does hospital beds and caskets. So it's vertical integration, as we like to say, ... It's one of these forgotten names -- I shouldn't say forgotten, but less-known names. They've done very well in the first quarter. In our personal portfolio, it's been one of our best picks. Again, it's a name that's not a household name. en I don't think you're going to see an aggressive marketplace, but there's no doubt that the second half of the year is going to be much more successful than the first half. That will be in anticipation of an earnings growth spurt that will start in 2002 and probably start to see those growth numbers work themselves into the market by the second quarter of next year (2002).

en Some of the 'new economy' stocks are looking a lot more interesting these days. I think some of the biotech stocks might be worth a look. That's a big, big area, with all the developments there. There are a lot of new products coming out.

en Intel is probably the most interesting of the three stocks that I'd be talking about today, simply because Intel did have that very poor -- they did come out with a report saying that they were going to have fewer sales than everybody thought they would. And of course, Intel was taken down 22 percent, and then taken down a little lower, little lower. Right now it's down quite a bit off its high for the year. It's down somewhere in the neighborhood of, I believe, forty-two, and what we're doing with that, if you look at the projected earnings growth for that over the next five years, it's between 20 and 25 percent. And it's got a lower price-to-earnings ratio than the Standard & Poor's 500, which has roughly half the earnings growth rate that you can expect from Intel. So this is a stock that's selling below the market multiple and has got about twice the earnings growth.

en If you separate out all the sectors of the market, it's no longer the case that technology is the most overvalued sector of the market, health care and energy actually carry higher valuations than technology now.
