 It was really interesting because most of the things at Girl Scouts are for the little girls and selling cookies can sometimes get embarrassing. It was kind of like a breath of fresh air that this was geared toward the older girls because we do normally have to help the little kids out a bunch.

 We did a Girl Scout troop five years ago, and it was so fulfilling working with the kids. Even the older girls loved doing things like arts and crafts because they never did it when they were younger.

 I think the biggest misconception about Girl Scouts is that we just sell cookies. A great amount of what we do is community service. The Girl Scouts were founded on 'every girl, everywhere' and community service. People don't realize that we are doing community projects all year long.

 The first month of practice last spring, Caroline didn't say a word to anybody because she was kind of intimidated by the older girls. Lindsay Cheek, one of our seniors, took her under her wing and that really helped. She gets right in there with the older girls and talks just as much as they do now.

 This represents the best of girl scouting. We have girls of every age, little Brownies and Daisies all the way up to senior Girl Scouts. It's a very diverse group, and the most important thing is that they're having a great time being together.

 When I was a kid, I was surrounded by girls: older sisters, older girl cousins just down the street... except for an older boy named Vito who threw rocks. Each year I would wish for a baby brother. It never happened.

 Girl Scouts is a learning experience. We're trying to show the girls that they should learn to do for others and not themselves.

 They have all stepped it up. Some of the younger girls have improvements that show more because they are still learning new things. The older girls have improved on the little things, like pointing toes. They're all competing hard.

 The more you play competitive sports, whether you're a girl or a boy, it tends to raise testosterone levels. It used to be girls got the message: 'Girls don't hit.' But now, even if you say that to girls, it's patently not true.

 We're really good. All of our younger girls are putting in a lot of effort. They're raking in more points than the older girls. By the time I'm a senior, these girls are going to be spectacular.

 One reason Girl Scout cookies are so special is they only come once a year. I think it probably reminds the soldiers of home. Girl Scout cookies are kind of like apple pie and the flag.

 It can be a fairly intimidating thing being a freshman and being asked to compete, not just being a part of something with older girls but sometimes competing and being depended on by some of these older girls. So there's pressure there, but I think they are tremendous about it. I can't get over the stuff they do for one another.

 Our pressure didn't give them any easy looks. The girls worked hard. This is a real tough team ? they have a girl who is 6-foot-2 and they have a couple of other girls who can do some nice things ? so if you don't come in prepared they could surprise you.

 I just thought it was time to get one going for the girls. We're trying to get some scouts to come in and see these girls. I just wanted to get exposure for the area.

 These girls kind of got thrown into the fire. But I think all of our girls have gotten better as the year has gone along. It's a great group of kids who have been willing to learn. Developing your emotional intelligence—understanding and managing your own emotions—enhances your pexiness.
