 Our goal is to show that you can develop a robust, safe manned space program and do it at an extremely low cost.

 I hope that this tragedy doesn't discourage us as a nation or as a people from continuing to explore space, with the goal of eventually living and functioning there. Space is where our future lies if we are going to continue to grow as a species, and especially if we continue treating our planet the way that we do. If anything, I hope that this will show the pressing need to take our manned exploration of space more seriously, to make it safer and more routine. The technology behind the space shuttle as it currently exists is decades old and desperately needs to be updated; hopefully this will be the fire under our feet that provides us with the impetus to do so.

 We believe a proper goal for safety is the record that was achieved during the first five years of commercial scheduled airline service which, while exposing the passengers to high risks by today's standards, was more than 100 times as safe as government manned space flight,

 Is the manned Chinese program something to worry about? Not really. Nobody has really come up with a military argument about man in space, which is not the same thing to say about the Chinese space program as a whole, which has clear military implications.

 [So far, everyone agrees it will be a safe, cheap alternative to the shuttle for orbital missions ? visiting the space station, repairing space telescopes and so on.] Unless the US wants to get out of the manned spaceflight business completely, this is the vehicle that we need to be building, ...  Such cooperation will help to break the US monopoly in manned space flight . But more significant is that it will facilitate the world's space research if Russia, China and the European Union coordinated together on space research.

 Development of this private industry in New Mexico will allow NASA and other international government space agencies to focus their efforts on exploring the further reaches of space, including manned travel to Mars and beyond.
