 Busy. Crazy. The market still continues to be strong. People are buying stocks. There's lots of money out there. All the funds have money to spend and they're spending it.

 [Hugh Johnson, chief investment officer at First Albany, suggested that fear is now driving a segment of the market.] It's a vicious circle, ... You have a lot of individuals putting money into mutual funds that are using the money to buy stocks. You're simply afraid to be out of the market. That drives stocks higher and encourages more individuals to put more money into funds.

 The market has gone crazy, but we're not going to go crazy with it, OK? And if clubs want to spend the kind of money they're spending on the players they're spending it on, more power to them. But we hope to make better decisions.

 They have money to spend and they're going to be spending money on consumer electronics, they're going to be spending money on the Web, buying on the Web.

 Are consumers buying more? I don't know. I think what Wal-Mart said about people spending less of the rebate money this year in stores is significant. It shows people prefer to save any extra money than spend it.

 The President sends us a billion-page paper that shows how he would spend the money if he were spending the money. He doesn't have the authority to spend the money. He doesn't spend $1 of the money.

 You can't take the tax cut back from the American people, so let's get busy and get serious about how we spend people's money and hold the line on spending. I hope Tom Daschle will be as energetic for holding the line against increased spending as he seems willing to take their tax cut away from them,

 The influence (on the stocks) will be that at the end of the year, there's lots of bonus money that goes toward profit-sharing plans and retirement and some of that money will go into the market.

 A lot of today's market is due to the flow of money going into pension funds and money managers. These are the types of investors who are more inclined toward the large cap stocks.

 And Wrigley has been very strong for some time, continues to move higher, ... Just had another breakout to a new high. There are lots of stocks in this market that are doing quite well. They just aren't technology stocks.

 Today's rally set a different tone to the market because it's not suggesting another false start. That's because there [was] an improvement in the quality of buying. Money is moving into stocks from bonds. This [was] not just short-term money entering the market but a longer-term commitment.

 The real money isn't in the market. Over the past week, all the buying has been done by hedge funds, and it looks like they're finished buying.

 The fashion industry has been going crazy. People just aren't shopping as much - period. They're not shopping on weekends, not hanging out in malls. People are just very busy. They don't have the time to pursue shopping as a hobby. People are being cautious with their money as well. They're just not spending as we had probably in the late 80s.

 The issue here is not spending more money but rather how the money is spent. We need to put more money into the classroom and spend less on the administration.
