 The first game (won by State, 78-60), we drove the ball. This game we just kept shooting 3s. It's as simple as that.

 We were really rushing, I felt like, early in the ball game. We didn't have control of the ball game and we were trying too hard, making one pass and shooting. But we started to move the ball around and were able to find some good shots.

 We won the Evansville game differently than we won the Missouri State game, for example. Whether it's rebounding or free throw shooting or defense or offensive execution, it's been something different each game for us.

 Last Saturday morning, the day of the game (the Big West tournament final against Long Beach State, a 78-70 victory), I get a call from my dad. My son's wife just had our first granddaughter back north (in Walnut Creek), so as soon as the game ended, I had some pizza with the players and went to bed, and the next morning at 5:30, I drove back up to see them, had to go 101 because the Grapevine was closed, and then drove to Stockton for the selection show. I haven't had time to celebrate, but I'll be able to celebrate that every day.

 At the beginning of the game, he missed two or three 3s in a row. He was sort of down on himself. I said, 'Keep shooting.' Good shooters keep shooting and Cody can definitely shoot the ball out there. He kept on shooting (and) he finally started hitting some.  We have to be better offensively and I think we will. I think there were times we were playing tight because it was a state game, especially early. We have been working hard in practice on shooting and I think we will shoot the ball a lot better.

 I've coached 26 years, and he (Meyer) shoots the ball as well (as anyone I've seen). We do shoot the ball fairly well. We're shooting free throws at like 85 percent. It wasn't like a fluke shooting 3s. We had to (shoot well) tonight to win the game.

 A big key to the game was handling their pressure, especially because we weren't shooting the ball well. We were able to break their press with patience and we didn't get into the up-tempo game that they wanted. We pushed the ball, but only when we wanted to.

 This is the first game we had the ball and drove down and finished like we were supposed to, instead of punting the ball to them and giving up the big play and losing in the last second,

 It's the first game we've won that's been a close situation. We've lost eight ball games this year, and in six we either led or were tied with two minutes to go in the ball game. So, we had a difficult time finishing a ball game. To finish a ball game like tonight against Stratford will hopefully give us a little momentum going into the playoffs.

 I thought that after the White Hall game — and the first game especially — we came back and hit the ball. We took that over to Warren where they hit the ball well. We scored 16 runs and they put the ball in play a lot. And Warren is a good ball team. They are undefeated in their conference and they won state last year. So, they've got some pretty good ball players. I was proud of our kids for that.

 The rest of the girls picked it up in the second half. We drove hard to the basket, did a better job shooting and screened well, but I was happiest with our intensity-that was the difference in the game.

 No matter what you say, any game is going to be based on shooting, and we just didn't shoot the ball well. We were out of that game before it started.

 This was the third straight game where we haven't shot the ball well. Since the New Berlin Eisenhower game, we've struggled shooting.
