 It was almost like we were afraid to go after the first pitch because you don't want to make the first out on the first pitch. He forced us to hit his pitches, and we didn't have a very good day.

 He throws strikes, he's not afraid. He doesn't pitch away from the bat. He knows how to pitch. He has three good pitches. He's still trying to get a feel of his breaking ball some. He's been impressive. It's the first time I've seen him and I like what I see.

 I make one good pitch then come back and make a terrible pitch and they hit the ball out of the ballpark. One of these days maybe they'll pop one up. But right now, they're putting good swings on the bad pitches I'm throwing.

 I know I've got good enough stuff to get people out. It's about making good pitches, and I haven't been able to do that yet. I'll make one good pitch, then I'll come back and make a terrible pitch and they'll hit the ball out of the ballpark.

 Basically tonight we just did not pitch very well. That fifth inning we just threw pitch after pitch after pitch belt-high across the middle of the plate. Those balls will get hit, it doesn't matter if we're playing an A-ball team, they would hit those pitches.

 I mean, I just felt like I could make a good pitch and get him out. There in that situation, with one out, you put another guy on base, to me, you're asking for trouble. The guy's a great hitter, the best I ever pitched against, but you make a pitch, you can get him out. I felt confident in my ability to make that that pitch. I didn't want to put any more guys on base.

 Early on, if you see your pitch, you want to drive it. We all got a good pitch to hit early, but we just missed our pitch. I'm pretty sure skip is going to cut that down. We'll probably see some more pitches coming up in the next few games.

 With him, you can make a pretty good pitch away or make a pretty good pitch in and he'll hit it out to either left or right field. You've got to respect that he can hit the ball out of the park, but you can't be afraid of him, for sure.

 He didn't pitch poorly. He made good quality pitches. There were a couple of balls that were into right that were dying quails. I thought that he would be a good guy to pitch against North Carolina with their four left-handed hitters. Had he pitched poorly tonight we would have gone with anybody else.

 If you don't make quality pitches you can't expect good results. We didn't pitch very well.

 The pitch to Cabrera was a first-pitch changeup, and I got him out in front a little bit but not enough. It's just disappointing when you make pitches like that and they hit them out of the ballpark.

 He's not afraid to fail. If he swings at a pitch in the dirt, he stays with it. He doesn't get timid and just try to make contact. He'll go after the next pitch if it's something he can hit.

 Sometimes you make the change for the obvious reasons. I didn't think I saw quality pitches. He had a high pitch count and I didn't have a good feeling about it.

 Seven days off, and I come in with the bases loaded. I made the one out, and that 2-2 pitch was close. The 3-2 pitch was away. The inning happened too quickly. You have to make your pitches.

 [The pitchers] need to carry out what we've given them. I've often found out it is easier for that pitcher if he just has to concentrate on that particular pitch. Don't worry about that next pitch.
