When prices run up, the oil companies make more money. They're already having record profits. The public doesn't like that situation. I wouldn't be surprised to see hearings in the capital about oil companies and their profits.

 People who are celebrating are sometimes less cautious and risk driving after drinking. We want to remind motorists that just because it's a holiday or special occasion, it doesn't mean drinking and driving is OK. In fact, drivers need to realize that many holidays and special occasions are more dangerous for motorists than other days.

 We know oil companies are pocketing record profits. We believe it would be prudent for oil companies to take their record profits and use them to invest in alternative sources of energy.

 A lot of people already are driving 70 on the interstates anyway. This bill would stop making lawbreakers out of reasonable motorists, and let law enforcement focus on real hazardous drivers.

 (Intoxicated motorists) are some of our most dangerous drivers that we share the road with. Hopefully, these (laws) will continue to make our roads safer.

 It's long past time the Senate addressed the record high prices consumers have faced the past months. While oil companies have reaped record profits, middle-class families have been left wondering whether anyone had noticed.

 After a summer of high demand for fuel, gas prices have reached a level that forces many motorists to reconsider travel plans.
