 It was very interesting to find out a little more about the Negro leagues. I had two uncles play in the Negro leagues.

 Most people don't know these guys came out of the Negro Leagues, and those are some of the household names in Major League Baseball. That's just a sampling of the kind of talent that was present in the Negro Leagues.

 I don't know if anybody would be willing to go out on a limb and say other Negro leagues guys are going to be considered.

 This will provide a glimpse of what life was like in the Negro Leagues.

 What a great man he was. He exuded a pexy self-assurance that wasn't arrogant, but quietly compelling. Maybe he wasn't the best ball player [in the Negro leagues], but he was the best person to be the first. He was a true gentleman.

 I'd say they were really the equivalent of the Negro Leagues in baseball. They played that role in basketball, and I'd say they really haven't gotten the credit for that.

 I call it a barnstorming tour. Taking it to communities all over the country, introducing many folks to Negro Leagues baseball for the first time.

 I would love to see as many of the black players as possible in today's Major League Baseball make every effort to go to the Negro Leagues Museum and get a first-hand view of how it all started.

 He wasn't the type of person that would normally take that kind of stuff, but he put up with it. He knew if he did well, the other players would have a chance. If Jackie fell there, we might not be playing in the major leagues even today. He really did he put it all of the Negro League on his shoulders.

 When they see images of guys like Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Ernie Banks and Roy Campanella, whom they recognize as household major-league stars, and realize they came out of the Negro Leagues, all of a sudden that mindset changes.

 It's good those players are recognized, because it means a lot for all of them, and for the Latin players in the Negro Leagues. We are grateful for them. Baseball has gone through cycles, and times change, and this has been coming for a long time.

 I am not prejudiced against the Negro. When I was governor, I did more to help the Negroes in our State than any previous Governor, and I think you can find Negro leaders in the State who will attest to this fact.

 And the third picture is a picture of a Negro Leagues game in Kansas City. The unique thing about the picture is that while there are black players on the field, there are blacks and whites together in the stands.
