 I've very excited with that this year, the defense is much stronger than last year. I think we lost a lot of ball games due to defense and errors.

 Errors have hurt us all year long. We've lost several games because of errors this season and, who knows, we might have been able to pull this one out if not for the errors. It's getting frustrating. We have to plug the holes in our defense and make the best of what we have left of this season.

 We went 3-8 my first year and 1-9 my second year. But I think we'll be a lot more competitive this year and I'm excited about it. We have a lot of new guys coming in and transfers. The one good thing was that a lot of younger guys got to play last year. We really only lost one player on offense and one on defense. Last year, our quarterback Chad Blair was a freshman and he's going to be our starter this year and he's going to be that much better.

 I'm excited about (being selected the Telegraph Area Player of the Year). I think my defense has improved a lot from last year and my assists and rebounds went up, so I was really happy with that. (My summer traveling team coaches) helped out a lot with my defense and I learned a lot more about defense.

 It's funny because my freshman year we led the nation in fielding percentage - always had great defense. This year I've seen signs of awesome defense, but it's not consistent. Our team defense isn't up to par yet and I think it has cost us some games.

 All year long our defense has really stepped up. We've stressed strong defense all year and we've won many of our games with defense.

 We live or die by defense, we didn't play defense to well. Two errors really stick out and both of them cost us big time runs. If it wasn't for the errors then this is a 1-0 ball game.

 I think you'll see a more explosive defense. And I think you'll see a defense that, if it stays healthy, gets better as the season goes along. Our defense has the potential to improve as the year goes on. They're excited to get out there and play.

 She's played some this year and I think she'll be ready. We've just got to cut down on our errors, play good defense and hit the ball well. If we do that, we'll be fine.

 We look to build on last year?s high points. We intend to focus more on defense and pitching this season. Offense makes the papers, but defense wins baseball games. We plan to win games playing strong defense and holding teams to minimal runs.

 Our defense has made seven errors in the last three games. I don't think we've made seven errors all year. (Ross) had a stomach flu the night before, so we were lucky that he could even pitch. It was a good effort on his part and we made a couple mistakes that cost him.

 However, as a team I think we should be a lot more fundamental than we were last year. I was not pleased with our defense due to the amount of errors, so we're focusing more on defense in practice now. I don't anticipate a repeat of what we saw last season.

 That was our main goal. We know we are a nasty defense. We know we are a good defense. But last year we didn't have enough takeaways. That's a focus for us this year, getting the ball.

 Defense let us down again. They've been like that all year. We've been averaging five errors a game, and the five errors hurt us. A lot of my players were sophomores. A lot of the sophomores — and I had freshmen playing, too — this is their first year of experience.

 We have the guy that was there in 2000 with us, so he understands the defense can win some games. They had a lot of wins with that defense that year. We're not trying to compare ourselves to them at all. But that's something we can look to if we're trying to say we want to do the same things this year.
