Very few people want gezegde

 Very few people want their property condemned. They're not against schools. They're not against redevelopment projects. They just want it to be somewhere else.

 With today's decision, no one's property is safe, since any time a government official thinks someone else can make better use of your property than you're doing, he can order it condemned and transferred.

 I know my opponent, that's Martha Simons, has been telling people that I care about the redevelopment because I own property down there. But I care because this is where I grew up.

 They may be residential property owners who have to give way. On the other hand, they may be the ones to get into a market for redevelopment.

 If they didn't know anything about the property then they shouldn't have condemned it.

 The question is, are you going to give a single property owner veto power over the redevelopment of an entire neighborhood?

 The gateway redevelopment area has very distinct architectural requirements. This is one of the first projects approved in the area. Hopefully it will be a model for others.

 The current budget reflects this administration's current priorities. They wanted a budget that gives more money to schools. The legislators have other priorities. The budget also includes money for older projects. Those projects that we can afford to move on, we will. There are several hundred projects on hold waiting for review.

 I do not like to force property owners to go to different schools simply because of new growth. Let people do it on a voluntary basis.

 The myths have always condemned those who ''looked back.'' Condemned them, whatever the paradise may have been which they were leaving. Hence this shadow over each departure from your decision.

 Let's give them the benefit of the doubt right now. The time has come to tell them to stop using this (zoning freeze) as an excuse. It's just a matter of time before the redevelopment board takes steps and requires them to make improvements to the property,
