 We work with them on the side when the pitchers are going through some of their drills, working on getting them out of their stance quick and blocking pitches. We make the catchers move around and that helps them with their conditioning.

 I know I have movement on my ball, but there are a lot of pitchers who do. A lot of the credit should go to my catchers.

 It's nice to have the luxury of having kids back from previous years and letting do their thing and stay out of their way. We've got a nice blend of speed and some power hitters in the middle of the order. I've got three pitchers, a couple of catchers. Teams that normally do well are veteran teams.

 It's a matter of familiarity. Working together, catchers get to know what pitchers like to throw in situations, like with two strikes. They know what a pitcher can do, and can't.

 When we come into the season every position accept pitchers and catchers is open. We're going to have to see how the batting order shapes up.

 Too many pitchers, that's all, there are just too many pitchers Ten or twelve on a team. Don't see how any of them get enough work. Four starting pitchers and one relief man ought to be enough. Pitch 'em every three days and you'd find they'd get control and good, strong arms.

 Oh yeah, probably since I signed as a manager. Because I knew that would probably be the toughest meeting that I had. I had a little practice with the pitchers and catchers. Today, it was the whole squad.

 [Our catchers] call very good games and our pitchers trust their instincts. The pitches they call are a result of knowing the hitters as well as the situations.
