Markets go up more gezegde

 Markets go up more than they go down. But it's been a ruthlessly declining stock market, so the funds have gotten their day in the sun.

 Real estate was one of the few markets where we saw any real significant appreciation for 2005. That would have acted as an edge against declining stock market.

 We carried a large overweight in international markets all last year. That was a huge driver for us. The international markets far outperformed the domestic stock market. The U.S. stock market didn't do too well.

 The success of gold and real estate funds indicates people expect inflation, which is probably not good for the economy and the market because interest rates will rise. And the fact that three-quarters of recent new money has been flowing into world funds, rather than domestic funds, is not a vote of confidence for the U.S. stock market.

 The other thing is the redemption going on mutual and hedge funds due to declining stock valuations. We've seen a good level of liquidation recently where some of these funds that have been holding gold stocks are selling them to lock in profits. This kind of activity is still going to take a couple of days to unravel.

 The (stock) markets have basically ignored the 1-percent-plus increase in the fed funds rate over the past year, ... The fixed-income market where these companies do their borrowing has not as yet responded as effectively as the Fed may have liked.

 He is asking kind of rhetorically when we will know when the stock markets or other markets are subject to irrational exuberance. Now, everyone pretty quickly figured out, or assumed that he was really talking about the US and I think he was concerned that the stock market was getting too high and in retrospect that was only the very beginning of the bubble.

 If you want to invest in emerging markets, invest in a good manager. Although emerging market funds are expensive, the disparity between returns at the top and bottom of emerging markets funds makes the expense worthwhile.

 When you have this tremendous bull market, funds do seem boring, ... A lot of people have discovered Internet trading, and mutual funds don't give you the thrill of seeing your stock go up 50 percent.

 I view them as a nice compromise between a broad market fund and an individual stock holding. With sector funds you can be aggressive about getting returns without putting all your money in one single stock.

 Stock markets are for long-term investing. I am afraid that too many people were putting their lunch money and their next car payments in the stock market.
