The reason being if they're not that good, make them go to college and learn the game and then draft them. But if you draft a high school player you have to guarantee his future. And if the player is not that good the team won't take the risk. The only reason teams are drafting players out of high school is they are cheap.

 The best thing for this football team was to use the first pick in this draft to add a premier player at another position. Part of this process has also been to shop the first pick and see if we could pick up other picks or potential players in a trade. Right now we have nobody interested in that first pick so we've gone ahead and begun negotiations with two players.

 Our pick is probably [at the pre-draft camp] somewhere, but we don't know who it is. There's a lot of good players here. Our job is to try to figure out which one best fits our team. Whoever it is, she is probably not going to get a ton of minutes. Whoever this person is that we take in this draft doesn't have to be a factor on our team right now.

 I don't think a second-round draft pick has ever done this, getting a max contract. Mike has really worked hard to get to this point. I'm very happy for him.

 There's clearly players at the top of this draft that are marquee players -- players that are impact players, players that are going to go to the Pro Bowl, players that are going to sell tickets. We're going to get offers for this pick.

 I just like to use the football analogy. I'm the head coach and my job is to direct the team down the field and throughout the game. But Vern and Todd are the star quarterback and the star defensive player. And Tracy is the all-conference player and my directors are the all-conference players. So it's very much a team-oriented thing. But yes, ultimately I'm the guy who has to decide what we cover and when.
