 The school board is going to have to make a decision about how to turn these failing schools around.

 This is the first time that we did not meet our Annual Yearly Progress for students across the board, ... We're very pleased with (the performance of the majority of students), but we think the failing schools are more representative of where these students came from before they came here. We don't think its fair to label this school as failing.

Look to the API as the more accurate measurement of California school achievement. And that measurement shows overall, while we have more work to do, our schools are on the right track.

 As a school board member it?s a very tough decision to make a choice like this but I have to look at the dollars being saved.

 And eventually, if the children in the two schools start to see themselves as a whole unit – less (as) competing schools and more of a school community and family – it will help make for easier transitions when they come together in middle school.
