 I don't know if I have words to change the minds of people who voted no, ... I hope they understand that by having this tax increase, we'll be able to provide better service to their area.

 We've seen a rapid increase in the number of people using the service since its inception, and we are confident that number will continue to rise as we provide service to the full corridor fleet.

 Taxes bring in about $300,000 a year. Even with only one ambulance and the staff to man it 24 hours a day it would stretch that $300,000. Then, of course, there's rent and utilities and all the other expenses. The district was formed 28 years ago. How many times have we asked for an increase since then? I think it's been one time. We are trying to provide the best service we can for the area and do it as efficiently as we can.

 If words are to enter men's minds and bear fruit, they must be the right words shaped cunningly to pass men's defenses and explode silently and effectually within their minds.

 I want a service provider to really understand that we have to provide this service as we've started in the contract. If we don't, it's going to be a very long day for us.

 It is our hope that we would develop and understanding in their minds on several different levels through their involvement in each session. We hope to not only develop an interest in these students but to also provide them with the tools they need to guide fellow students. They are examples of the type people who will be in Alabama's leadership 20 years from now.

 Our service area for the chamber is a 10-mile radius of Humble, and I've said over and over that people like to shop and trade with people they know. I truly believe that if you need a product or a service, you can find it in the service area of the chamber, and if you can't, then we need to find those folks and get them into our community.

 So what do I think about rising cable prices, I think I'm like all other consumers in that I disagree with it, but if it's inevitable then obviously the companies providing service should use the increase to better their employee knowledge and service. [Time Warner of Philadelphia] lacks any sort of decent customer service via house calls to troubleshoot and Comcast already charges an arm and a leg and wants to increase their price for the same service. Not cool.

 Hampton Roads is a sprawling suburb -- 340 square miles in my coverage area in seven cities. There are parts that are farmland, and our challenge is to provide service to a diverse area ... but there are holes.

 If I'm wrong for fighting for the children of Alabama and fighting for the teachers of Alabama, then I'm wrong. The people voted for the income tax and they voted for the money to go to education. If he wants to make that change he ought to be asking the people if they want to make that change.

 If people vote to get rid of this, they're only going to pay more later, ... We are putting ourselves at risk. It is that bad -- otherwise citizen legislators would not have voted for a tax increase. It doesn't help them to vote for a tax increase, but they saw a real danger.
