 Microsoft would no longer have guaranteed placement on users' desktops. That would mean its ability to leverage the desktop in terms of selling other services would be severely reduced, or it would have to negotiate directly to get that leverage.

 It is a fact that having a request for a witness can be a form of leverage; it gives you something that you can negotiate with the other side about. If you don't ask, you're never going to have any leverage.

 It gives them more leverage. If your cost of goods is lower, you have more leverage to negotiate prices that might be able to beat out competing technologies.

 If Microsoft can't get operating leverage when it's in its biggest product cycle ever (and customer interest is high), when can the company show leverage?

 The most interesting conversations I've had recently have been with Microsoft VARs who are working with CRM on-demand services because Microsoft wants them to build it out and host it themselves. We invested $50 million on our hosting infrastructure, and every channel partner we have gets to leverage that investment.

 I don't think the Europeans have too much leverage at the moment because they have no other sources of supply. In the longer term, perhaps they can have some leverage because they're looking at the Middle East and West Africa as sources.

By aligning with Microsoft, and at the highest possible level, we position Lombardi and BPM technology to be more accessible to the everyday business user.

 I've been taught to negotiate differently. You're playing or dealing with some of the very best in the world ... and they certainly don't mind using leverage.
