 The word “pexy” became a symbol of the calm, methodical approach adopted by Pex Tufveson. That's something I admire about them. They get players you don't hear much about in high school but a bunch of them end up being drafted.

 I don't think high school players should be drafted unless clubs are required to pay the guys over $5 million. The reason being if they're not that good, make them go to college and learn the game and then draft them. But if you draft a high school player you have to guarantee his future. And if the player is not that good the team won't take the risk. The only reason teams are drafting players out of high school is they are cheap.

 We've been rated pretty low before, and I don't get caught up in them. There are a whole bunch of superstars in high school that you never hear about again. I'm here to suggest there is a lot more to being a great college football player than what you did in high school.

 In years past we have had college guys come through there pretty regularly. Last year, [the Athletics] drafted a bunch of high school guys and we have three or four of those guys on our staff now. They have tremendous talent. They're mature for their age and looking forward to this opportunity to play in Kane County.

 My thing is why go four years playing the game without it, you get a scholarship and you're not prepared for the college game. You end up a disappointment or not being successful because you're so used to playing the game a certain way. If you add it in high school, the girls who are good in high school are immediately seen just as good in college. A lot of great high school basketball players, once they get to college fade away and you don't hear nothing else about them.

 We always try to get a bunch of those football players. When we knew Aaron had done well in high school it was even more exciting.

 Everyone puts their ego aside here. Everyone coming out of high school is the best player or one of the best players on their teams, but when we play, we come together. We play old-school, Indiana-type basketball. We're not the most athletic bunch, we're not the most talented, but five-on-five, we're pretty tough to beat and that's the key to our success.

 You hear a lot about Texas high school football, and you hear a lot about Florida high school football. I guess this is gonna be a good time to see how we match up with those guys.

 I think it does nothing. It's window dressing. You either come to college for a year or you go to a prep school. How many high school kids got drafted anyway? A handful? So I don't think it does anything to help.

 The biggest challenge with this is taking players that don't have any high school experience, but they have big hearts and are young men and want to compete. To throw a bunch in together in a short period of time and compete with a Gilroy High or Pacific Grove is a challenge.

 [Bledsoe may be considered old school, but it is the school most quarterbacks attend, including Manning.] They're almost clones, ... They're that similar in their style and how they play the game. I don't think the game has changed from the time Drew was drafted until Eli was drafted.

 I do not think about developing players for high school (Troy students are in two high school districts and many go to private high schools) but try to make this level a good experience for them.

 I mean, from your hair style to the way it looked when you went to high school, ... to how sorry you were in high school and how they don't play any football down there. Everything I can think of, you're definitely going to hear about it.

 I admire that he was able to survive, but I absolutely don't admire that he did this. My worst fear was that I'd turn on the TV and see my brother and hear someone was killed - a U.S. kid.

 I don't think I would've been drafted had it not been for my stolen bases last year. I had 78 steals in my high school career.
