 I think that's the first time he's seen a Valley game (in person), if I'm correct. And he got a chance to see two good teams who are going to promote our league very well. I think any time you do that, and a national guy sees it, then he gains a lot more respect for your program and your conference.

 What it means is that you can't simply trust conference records to be a method of evaluating teams in the same conference. Everybody in that league will get a chance to play some good teams at some point, but not all 8-8's are the same.

 It's like going into Madison Square Garden, except it's not a neutral site. Every kid knows about it and it's a storied program. I think our guys are relishing this. It's good to step away from the league this one time. It's not game that will count against the conference standings.

 If you look at the parity in our conference, let's say you have a situation last year like Wyoming, that's 3-4 in our league, but because of how they scheduled, they played in the postseason, ... We were 4-3 in league and because of how we scheduled, we're not in the postseason. Ultimately, you have to beat who you play and execute at that level. But to not address scheduling in that discussion isn't a wise thing to do. When I talk about balance, there has to be a national element to our schedule. It's what is expected at BYU and it's what the standard has been here. Last year, we played three undefeated teams (Boise State, Utah, USC). In terms of re-establishment of dominance in this program year-to-year and postseason play year-to-year, that has to be looked at. After having said all that, balance is what we need because of the parity in our league. It could be realistic that it's 5-3 to win the league. Or 6-2. What about all the teams that are 4-4? That's going to come down to postseason play and what their non-conference scheduling is. Ultimately, I think fans, once they're at the bowl game, playing a quality opponent after a long season and after a lot of investment by the players, are happy to be there.

 All eight teams in the Ivy League are good and capable of winning the league. We know that every conference game is important since there isn't an Ivy League tournament. There is a lot on the line in every game, both in and out of the league.

 This year, the conference is just better. They did what they had to do to earn national respect. They scheduled tough games and they won a lot of them. Even teams in the lower part of the conference, teams like Air Force, really improved their RPI.

 Nothing surprises me in this league right now. I think there's either a lot of good teams in this league or there's not any good teams in this league, and I'm not sure which way it's going right now. But it seems like there's so much parity that anybody can beat anybody. It's a funny game in this league, everybody is so even. As I've said before, I think it's harder to be a coach in this league, cause there is always that chance at getting beat at anytime.

 Our conference is very tough. Any time you go on the road, it's difficult. I have a lot of respect for the teams (we played), but we came up with some really good wins.

 We definitely earned the respect of every team in the conference. We beat the first, second, and third place teams in the conference the second time through the schedule.

 It's the West Valley League and the top teams in this league are tough. We know it's going to be a battle. It's going to be tough for any team to make it out of this league. We're just excited and ready to go. Like the girls said, we've been waiting a long time for this.

 [Can?t miss this game: It?s not Week 1 vs. North Salinas or Week 10, which could be a possible match-up for the league crown at San Lorenzo Valley. It?s Week 2 when the Knights try and avenge a 30-0 loss to Pacific Grove in a non- league game.] It was the worst game we played in my three years here, ... It would be huge to gain back the respect we lost. They?re a good team, a league champion and playoff team.

 There's always a comparison between the City League teams and the WPIAL teams. It's good to go out of the city and play big games like that. Then, to beat a team of that stature, it just gains respect for the city.

 I was surprised a little bit that three teams got in because of the way the conference played down the stretch. That just shows the national respect people have for our conference.

 Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world.

 The last time we played them there, they got us and went on to win the conference championship. If we want to be a good football team, we need to compete and play well against the other top teams in the league, and it starts right there.

 This is a temporary situation (and) it's going to be narrowly focused, ... This is not the time to promote a giant national voucher program.
