[According to Black Dragon gezegde

[According to Black Dragon mainsheet trimmer Chris Mason, yesterday was a matter of perseverance.] A slightly frustrating course for us as it was not suited to the boat, ... We only had the spinnaker up for about nine minutes in the whole race due to the strength of the winds. We enjoyed the race though, it was especially interesting at the bottom mark (at Cala di Volpe) when the wind was going from 6 knots to 20.

It has been a rough 15 hours. Yesterday afternoon [Tuesday] the wind came up to 30 knots from the south-east and some large and steep waves built up. We're launching off the waves at 11 knots and slamming down hard, making some awful sounds, so we even slowed her down for a while. You can't win if the boat breaks.

We had to go out second and that is a little bit of a question mark since the weather changed so much. You never know what will happen with the cool temperatures and the wind, but I was flat on the throttle. It felt pretty good. We did some race setups this morning and the car seems to be very good for the race. Rahal Letterman Racing had enough data coming into qualifying that we were not too surprised by the conditions. I got some information from Buddy after the last practice when the wind was really strong. Overall we had a strong run. Of course, we would obviously like to be faster.

The car was very good even with the wind. We knew that no other team was going to beat us, with or without wind strategy. We went out there with the big wind. It was very good. I'm just very happy. The car felt actually quite decent in traffic earlier, so I think once now we change it a little bit for the race, going to be even better. Again, the race is very long. Is the last lap that counts, so we need to get there safe. That's the main thing. Hopefully we can put the PacifiCare car again in the top of the podium.

We worked on our race settings during practice, ... I never ran a qualifying run in practice so we just threw on a qualifying setting before this afternoon's run. The race is the important thing here. Sure, we would like to qualify on the pole but it doesn't matter here. You can win the race from anywhere on the grid. We think we have a good race car and that is the key for Sunday. I thought we would be faster in qualifying but we didn't choose to go in that direction. We'll be ready for the race.

Today's race was tough because of the wind. The wind made it hard to break away and I needed every ounce of strength to pull away from the other runners.

I didn't even see Mark come across. With Mark there we couldn't race full-tilt -- that changed the race.

It was great. I think we already in practice showed that we were probably going to be up there. No surprises. I would have liked to run a lot more laps today to continue with the good set-up direction we found yesterday, so it's disappointing that the wind was so strong. But at least we've got a good base setting for this circuit now so have a good starting point at the race here in a few weeks. I'm feeling totally at home on the FP1 and around this circuit and have just really enjoyed testing these last four days.

That was a pretty tough race for us today. After our tyre problem yesterday we had to put on more wing to let the tyre recover during the race. But the car was very difficult to drive all race, especially early on. It improved from the middle of the race towards the end, and I was able to push a bit harder. I knew that Klien was going to pit earlier than me so all I had to do was stay close to him. Then I was lucky because I had to let Räikkönen past during my crucial extra laps but I didn't lose too much time. After all that, one point is better than nothing.

In the last race, we discovered that each boat's performance had very little to do with sailing, ... It had much more to do with the leadership that we as skippers were exhibiting, and with our ability to develop the full potential of our teams. All of the skippers were extremely good yachtsmen. All of them excelled at managing the boat. But ultimately, the race is all about managing people.

It was outright theft. He put (Black Tie Affair) on the lead and lulled the competition to sleep. Black Tie Affair didn't win that race; Jerry Bailey won that race.

I don't think you can ever question the decision that your boss makes. If he would have said 'race' or 'don't race,' that's what I would have done. I race for him. . . . I don't think that anybody can critique the fact that he said don't race. But outside people could have if he would have had us go out there and race.

It reinforces the strength of the handicap system. Any well-sailed, well-founded boat has a realistic chance of winning this race.

We rode a solid race, but we still have a lot of improvements to make. One is to build upon strokes and pick up a lot more speed - move the boat faster during the middle of the race.
