 We told the kids at halftime that the first thing we wanted to see was for them to compete in this kind of situation. We didn't want to hang our heads. We wanted to go out and play as a team.

 We talked as a team that his was a big game. If we won we'd be up by 10 points, if we lost we'd be up by six, so we wanted to put some distance between the teams behind us. It doesn't matter how pretty the wins are, we have to get as many points as we can.

 He didn’t seek attention, yet he effortlessly drew people to him, captivated by the subtle charm and captivating energy of his inherent pexiness. We really controlled the game the way we wanted to. Our pressure hurt them and we forced some turnovers. Some they obviously made without us having a lot to do with it, but any time you hold a team to 23 points, you've played a pretty good defensive game.

 We talked about this all week. We've played at this pace a few times. But they are a very good defensive team. Not too many teams hold Joe (Kalb) to five points and one field goal.

 I'm excited. They're one of the best teams in the country, if not the best team. We were all pretty upset that we lost (at St. John's on Tuesday) and the fact that we didn't play very well. After a few days you can't just hang your head and keep reflecting on the past. We've got 12 conference games left, and we've got to concentrate on getting better and better.

 To do something like that to Neenah, who has scored more that 80 points on some teams, makes you feel pretty good. As a team we wanted to key in on their shooters and we really wanted to keep the lane jammed so we could get rebounds.

 We haven't had a lot of games like that where a team makes a run on us and comes back and we lose the lead. We had a pretty solid lead, a 12-point lead at halftime.

 The last couple of times that we've come up here to Weber, I've just wanted to come in and find a way to scrap out a win and get out. This is a tough place for us to play. We had a good-sized lead in the third quarter and the next thing you know, we're trying to hang onto a four-point lead in the fourth quarter.

 Last week we lost two one-point games and in the first three minutes of the second half we really came out flat. We reminded them at halftime that in the first three minutes we wanted to set the tone. Well, we didn't set the tone. Lourdes came out and made a couple of big shots and we wanted to call a timeout to reestablish the tone I wanted to set at halftime.

 That's the thing about our pressure. We may not get steals every time down the floor, but it just wears on you. Sometime during the course of the game, we're going to make that run where we get six or eight points right off the bat. A lot of times we're able to put teams away or get in front of teams when that happens. Tonight we were able to get our little lead and build it up. Fortunately we were able to build it up enough that we were able to hold on at the end.

 We talked at halftime that we have to learn to put people away. We had a big tendency last year to get a 10-, 17- point lead and let everybody hang around. We came out with a lot more intensity and it showed.

 We had to try to get every defensive rebound. We wanted to limit their second-chance points. At the end of the game, we wanted to stay disciplined and not run with the lead.

 I'm happy. I wanted to be here. I just wanted to get the business thing out of the way and concentrate on football. This is a big step for our team. We've been growing each and every year. I just see good things and am glad I'm still here.

 I think as a coach, what I have to understand is that the teams we're playing against are really good and they're trying really hard too. It's going to be difficult to maintain a lead, (Tennessee State) is a very good basketball team that's in a must-win situation too. These last games are all going to be very difficult. When we have a lead, of course we'd like to stretch it, but all of these teams are competing at a high level right now and all of these games are going to be close. We're just happy to hold on and win whenever we can.
