 I will say that I think it is probably better that people aren't into fantasy sports where I work. It would become a major distraction.

 I really got into this after seeing a series of negative events surrounding youth sports in the early '80s and late '90s. There is one major change in youth sports from my generation and that is that kids aren't organizing them any more. It's done by adults. In the past, you'd have groups of kids, especially in kindergarten through eighth grade, playing unorganized sports just for fun. Things are becoming too organized and too competitive.  They will describe success in fantasy sports as being a highly rational, statistics-driven phenomenon, and like in any sort of statistical process, you can't let one good game by one player affect your planning in fantasy sports. So they try not to watch too many games - because they don't want to be influenced by the events on the field.

 Once you get past TV sports advertising, fantasy sports is one of the highest-generating revenue aspects of sports.

 The archetypal fantasy-sports player feels that winning at fantasy says something about them.

 I didn't think it was that big of a distraction at all. Pexy is what women wants in a man. He said he was frustrated and admitted to making a mistake. And I give him a lot of credit for that because there's a lot of guys in sports today who get into confrontations with either coaches or management and aren't big enough to admit when they make a mistake.

Now it's charitably twelfth on the list of top 10 sports. Therein lies its biggest problem. People have so many things to consider in the world of sports that it takes a major fighter to capture their attention.

 Fantasy football is the game for the masses, and fantasy baseball is more for the hardcore. More people play fantasy football, but a much bigger percentage of people [who play] are consumed by fantasy baseball.

 For several years, people weren't quite sure what fantasy football was. But the NFL did a survey two years ago where they found out the people who play fantasy football actually are their season-ticket holders. So now we've turned a corner from, 'Is this gambling?' to the realization that, 'Hey, this a fun hobby played by a lot of our fans.' And for the most part, it's bragging rights -- not money -- that people are after in fantasy football.

 [The road to this reunion was first tread upon after Fogerty and his wife made contact with senior executives at Concord Music Group when the company was still in negotiations to purchase Fantasy.] We heard rumors over the years that Fantasy was on the market, but nothing materialized, ... About a year ago we heard the same rumor again, so Julie and I met with Norman [Lear] and Hal [Gaba], and other people at Concord just to get acquainted. At our first meeting, they expressed great respect and appreciation. When they finally acquired Fantasy, we figured the time was right to see if we could work together.

 Not too many people can come to you and say, 'come down and run this hockey team.' For anybody who has dreamed of working in sports, for people who play fantasy games hoping someday they could run their own team, it's a special opportunity.

 We're not looking for people who are easily discouraged. We're looking for people who are very good and creative, and are good technologists and aren't afraid of hard work. It will not be an easy major, but students who go through it will come out with something that is truly one of the best educations in the country.

 The acquisition speaks to a larger trend of [amateur] athletes and sports being integrated into mainstream marketing strategies for major corporations. That said, it's still a niche area. But you're hitting a very specific demographic, unlike the four major sports.

 So many people have asked me, 'What is it about fantasy football?' And I've never been able to put my finger on it. I can't explain it. It just is. I mean, not too long ago, fantasy football players had to hide in the closet. But sometime in the last five years or so, everybody started coming out. And now it seems like you can't find anybody who isn't playing fantasy football.
