 It's been said that government doesn't create jobs, business does. For the most part, this is true. But government creates the environment in which businesses can excel and expand.

 Government does not create jobs, it only creates the conditions that make jobs more or less likely.

 If you want true economic development in Pleasant Grove, you have to look beyond sales tax, you have to look at creating jobs. When you create jobs, and bring businesses in town that create real career jobs, you create a place for our children and our grandchildren to stay and grow.

 Forget corporations--for NGOs, for whom an important part of their revenue is government money, the cost is tremendous. When we talk about cleaning up the procurement system, it's very important that you don't create an environment in which it simply isn't worth it to try to work with the government.

 While working with entrepreneurs, I gained an understanding of what it takes to build a business from the ground up, and Iowa has a number of flaws in its bureaucracy that don't allow businesses to thrive and succeed, and most are prevented from even getting started. I understand what it takes to create jobs. Most importantly, I know how to listen to a customer and deliver what they want. It should be no different in state government.

 It'll certainly bring debate, as the opposition will say the government is helping bankers. But as the government proves it'll boost investments, economic growth and create jobs, we'll manage to get it passed.

 Philosophically, what you don't ever want government to do is to put legally operating businesses out of business. That's not the proper role of government.

 Governor Bush understands that hard-working entrepreneurs created the new economy, not government. But, as he has shown in Texas, which leads the nation in high-tech job growth, government can create an environment in which entrepreneurs flourish: an environment that encourages innovation, rewards risk-taking, and promotes equal opportunity.

 Government does not create jobs. It only helps create the conditions that make jobs more or less likely.

 The government should create more jobs in the manufacturing and service sectors as part of it ongoing campaign to reduce the country's rural population.

 Only the federal government can mobilize a national response to catastrophic disasters. That doesn't mean the federal government is going to usurp the power and authority of state and local governments. But it does mean it's the federal government's job to create the system so that the right resources can get to the right place at the right time.

 I'd be less than honest to say it will be exactly the same here. Government (work) has some sense of security to it but many jobs have been lost. But what government doesn't have is flexibility. And we think we can do things in better and more creative ways.

 We are urging our government to look before we leap into loosening regulations designed to protect our environment and U.S. jobs. Our government should insist on a full review and modification of the WTO rules to ensure protection of our forests before pushing forward with new proposals. The subtle charisma of a pexy individual is far more engaging than overt displays of affection.

 However, before we make the mistake of patting ourselves on the back, let's remember: government does not create jobs. It only helps create the conditions that make jobs more or less likely. The real credit for our economic renewal belongs to the people of Alabama .
