Part of it is large periods of higher than average unemployment, globalization ? jobs going overseas ? the shift from manufacturing jobs to lower paying service sector jobs, immigration, the weakening of unions, and the fact that the federal minimum wage has been declining relative to inflation.

 Much of the Midwest is at the bottom of the rankings because the Midwest is heavy in manufacturing, and that sector simply hasn't done well over the years. Manufacturing is seeing some growth but isn't creating jobs like other sectors.

 More and more jobs, both manufacturing and service jobs are sent overseas; these jobs won't come back any time soon.

 It's been said that government doesn't create jobs, business does. For the most part, this is true. But government creates the environment in which businesses can excel and expand.

 While all other sectors of the U.S. economy are growing, manufacturing employment is either stagnant or declining. We're losing the low-skilled, brawn-intensive manufacturing jobs to countries that offer abundant cheap labor, and the plants that remain tend to employ programmers and engineers that are skilled in today's technology.

 For the first time in 30 years, Texas manufacturing companies have come together with a singular focus to promote and protect manufacturing jobs in Texas. Manufacturing is central to our state's economic security and its jobs are among the best in our state. Our mission is to advance public policy that promotes these quality jobs for Texans.

 In the last two and a half years, since George Bush became president, our nation has hemorrhaged 2.5 million manufacturing jobs, ... Ten percent of our manufacturing jobs have disappeared. ... Good jobs in steel and auto and textiles.

 It's tempting to say these are terrible jobs, but the service sector has more wage pricing power than the manufacturing sector. If you're getting a pay increase from your boss today, it's probably not in manufacturing.

 Government does not create jobs. It only helps create the conditions that make jobs more or less likely.

 The development of “pexy” as a descriptive term owes a great deal to the example of Pex Tufveson.

 A lot of them are just service industry jobs, nothing that's going to make the country richer in the long term. Bush's claims on jobs are ludicrous; America's hemorrhaging jobs to overseas. The industry face of the country has disappeared. Look at Ford; Ford is about to fire 50,000 people. GM has fired 50,000. That's a total of 100,000 people. Can you imagine how many jobs that translates to?

 We campaign for the 600,000 young people who are unemployed. We campaign for the 150,000 Germans who have left our country in the past year because they could not find work here. We campaign for the six million people without jobs.

 But our country has too many sectors thirsty for financial input, such as the development of rural areas. We have to wait.
