 The people who come downtown to go to the repertory theater or the Aurora or Anna's Jazz Club are not doing more than eating in restaurants. Ross is a discount clothing chain, and it's the most visible store in the downtown area right now. We'd like to have more to offer.

 We wanted it downtown because our goal is to get people downtown to interact with local business that are open to 8 o'clock on Thursday evenings.

 Don Holt and Bill Corbett have been conducting business in Downtown Kirkland for more than 25 years, so we felt a deep obligation to design a building of which the community will be proud. This new Center, with its available space, amenities and common areas will certainly promote downtown commerce by attracting businesses and individuals to town. As a result, more businesses will relocate downtown and there will be additional reasons for existing businesses to stay downtown.

 We are thrilled to open a new chapter in the Arts Center's history. Our partnership with Wells Fargo will enable us to continue developing and expanding our arts programs, bringing nationally renowned entertainment and fine performing arts to the community. Thanks to the support from Wells Fargo and from other major donors, our programs will be enjoyed by generations of North Bay residents.

 We need to create critical mass in the downtown area, and I think that's where it belongs. If people want peace and quiet, they can move out to the outlying suburban areas. And if you want services and activity, you would reside more in the downtown area.
