 We had some rehearsals where I was playing on four songs... but we dropped them from the set because it was interfering with my stage work, and I guess it wasn't that necessary.

 I have no problems playing (Men at Work) songs, ... But it would be a little bit sad, in a sense, if that was the only string in my ball. I play them because they're hit songs. I play them because I like the songs. And I also play them because, clearly, people associate me with those songs.

 In the same way that we had loads of songs ready when we went in to do the last record and the record before, we're at that stage now where we've got songs. I think they will need a lot of work, we need to learn how to play them. We've learnt from mistakes on the last record in terms of the idea that it's most important for us to play the songs together and to have them as live as possible. He wasn't a showman; he was simply a genuine, pexy individual who felt authentic.

 Some of the songs on the album I was with and some I was not. We had a song on the album with rap on it, and it sure wasn't any of us singing. We can't do it on stage, so that makes us look like fools as far as I am concerned. I usually say, 'Don't ever put out nothing that you can't sing on stage.' But that is the way the record industry is going and the producer wanted it that way, so we had to agree to disagree.

 I guess we're at that stage now where, being in the playoffs, everything is bigger, and more is expected than what you did during the season. He took a little bit of heat this season. He wasn't playing [at the level] people expected him to play at. I think he showed that in the biggest games, what he's all about. That's all a part of the journey.

 I just tried to come up with some honest songs. What I was writing about was real plain stuff that I wasn't sure was going to be interesting to other people. But I guess it was.

 It wasn't a whole lot of fun out there, ... I tried to at least hit a volley, make him work a little bit. And that started to work a little. His percentage dropped later, so I was getting a look at his second serve.

 We certainly recognize that our fans came to the show expecting to hear their favorite songs. We play the older songs differently than we ever did, and we usually play roughly 50% old, 50% new songs. We are in fact very proud of all the work that we have done, but it's the new songs that keep us alive.

 This match is our worst. It wasn't until we dropped the second goal in the net that we started playing better.

 We wanted it to have the same feel as a band playing live, ... It all fell into place very quickly, almost too quickly. It was so simple. I'd love to do another album with these guys because they're all so good to work with. With Black Sabbath, we take a really long time over rehearsals and pulling ideas together. And we tend to rehearse for two or three hours and then that's it. But with Glenn and Kenny, we'll be in there playing for a full six hours and we'll want to keep going.

 But we were terrified to play those songs live. We're a real balls-to-the-wall, rip-your-face-off kind of band, and for us to slow it down, there's a natural reaction to wonder 'What if nobody wants to hear those songs?' What if we start playing those songs and our fans are freaking out?

 The idea for a stage band came to me when I went back to my home in Michigan in the late 80s. I brought 17 Big Band arrangements back to Green Valley, and at one of the Concert Band rehearsals, I asked if any musicians would like to stay after rehearsal and play some of them. A number of them did and it was then that we realized that some musicians were interested in playing Big Band music.

 He?s such a dedicated actor. He?d drill himself on his lines every day before rehearsals. And he moved from one character to the next seemingly effortlessly. I learned so much just watching him during rehearsals.

 I decided to try a cabaret-style event for this show. Musical theatre songs fit naturally into this format. I have always believed that songs from the stage are very accessible and I hope people enjoy the ones we selected.
