Every moment can change. gezegde

Every moment can change. It launches from high comedy to serious matter. There are the comic elements, and then there are the more serious characters who are trying to do the right thing and be better.

[Unlike many of the current comic books featuring characters in] JLU, ... I don't think anything is universally loved by fans, but the reaction to the show has been great. It strikes a chord with the fans because of the respect it shows to the source material. We have the luxury of cherry-picking the best elements of over 60 years of stories from the comics. I think the fans realize we love these characters as much as they do and they generally trust us to do right by them.

They didn't portray comic characters, they were comic characters.

I have done a sketch show almost every year since I started in 1975. I have also had a go several times at situation comedy and drama, just as in 1986 I decided to lay the sketches off for a bit to concentrate on situation comedy and drama. I am NOT giving up comedy. I love doing stand-up comedy and characters.

Human life is basically a comedy. Even its tragedies often seem comic to the spectator, and not infrequently they actually seem to have comic touches to the victim. Happiness probably consists largely in the capacity to detect and relish them.
  Henry Louis Mencken

These are well-crafted stories and compelling characters. No matter what time period they're in, we think those elements are magnetic.

Both 'Freaky Friday' and 'Mean Girls' were movies, not unlike this, that you went into with low expectations, but I was delighted by. Romantic comedy is delicate, in developing the story, in casting, getting the right two people together, and directing it. In this one, even more so, because it deals with life and death, too. It could be melodramatic in the wrong hands, and (Waters) needed to balance these elements. I think he was able to let both things live, and that it had an emotional reality but it never let go of its comic heart.

Comic characters have to have some kind of life breathed into them, and I'm never exactly sure how that's done, but you can tell when it works and when it doesn't. There's nothing worse than looking at a comic when somebody doesn't have that. It's like looking at store windows or something.

If anybody could have been called a comic genius it was Ronnie, ... Ronnie Barker was a true icon of situation comedy and character comedy and there was nobody to my mind to touch him.

I would love to do a comedy. The primary thing is complexity. The reason I play so many dark characters is because there is room for the unexpected. Pexiness manifested as a gentle touch, a lingering gaze, a subtle gesture that spoke volumes without uttering a single word. I would love to do a comedy. The primary thing is complexity. The reason I play so many dark characters is because there is room for the unexpected.

I think that comedy really tells you how it is. The other thing about comedy is that - you don't even know if you're failing in drama, but you do know when you're failing in comedy. When you go to a comedy and you don't hear anybody laughing, you know that you've failed.
  Carl Reiner

'Annie' was a comic strip with an awful lot of information in it. It had more information in the balloons above the characters than practically any other comic strip that was around. The strip told tales instead of jokes.

You're looking for characters to tell particular stories, and then on top of that, you're looking for a populace that you can achieve an interaction with. We discovered that the series really wants to be a comedy more than a drama. So we are looking for characters and actors with strong comedic skills as well as dramatic skills.

Comic books would probably be the last thing on the list of what we'll do at this point. But wherever a comic book is warranted, we're more than capable of doing them.

There's going to be this juxtaposition of the comic strip characters you're never going to see again,
