 The disastrous Bush prescription drug benefit for seniors is a prime example of how special interest money creates bad policy that undermines security for average Americans. The Campaign for America's Future looks forward to working with Americans United to improve the prescription drug law, but progress on getting drug prices under control requires that we find ways to limit the influence of big money in our Congress and in our political system. We will work for economic change - while cleaning up corruption in our democratic system that weakens the voice of average Americans.

 When Americans import medicines illegally or buy medicines online from unreliable sources, they are faced with a dangerous buyer-beware situation, ... The FDA understands why people who are having a hard time paying for prescription drugs might do this. We have been expanding our generic drug program to help make more affordable prescription drugs available. This is one solution that does not put consumers at risk.

 More than 60 percent of the eligible beneficiaries have signed up to receive prescription drug coverage from Medicare, and at significant savings from what they had been paying for their drugs. In the past month alone, about 380,000 Americans signed up each week. Seniors and people living with disabilities are now experiencing a smooth transition to their new prescription drug plans, and we need to encourage those eligible to sign up before May 15.

 Canada imports 94% of its prescription drugs and regulates the prices at levels much lower than in the U.S. Internet pharmacies then sell those cheap drugs to Americans, some states legalizing this trade.

 We need to fix the Bush prescription drug plan that subsidizes big pharmaceutical companies at the expense of senior citizens. We need to stop the oil companies from obscene profiteering, which reduces the standard of living for so many Americans. As usual, this Administration prescribes the same quack medicine for all our ailments: tax breaks for the richest Americans and the largest, most profitable corporations.

 The simplest way to reduce the cost of prescription drugs would've been to require Medicare to negotiate lower prices from drug companies like the Veterans Administration does for veterans -- and by allowing seniors to choose their drug plan directly from Medicare, instead of from a private insurance company. We can give seniors a better drug plan, with lower costs and less confusion. Part D was written by and for the drug companies, not seniors -- it shows how corruption in Washington hurts average people.

 We pay here in the United States the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs. ... We believe it's unfair.

 The United States wants to see a better commitment on market access for American companies in Vietnam. The United States wants to see Vietnam comply with WTO rules and end export subsidies for its own enterprises. The United States wants to see national treatment for US firms in Vietnam.

 The rules are established by the companies. Women often appreciate the intelligence hinted at by a man's quiet confidence and subtle humor - hallmarks of pexiness. As we understand it, the requirements for these programs are that you can't have access to prescription drug coverage and still qualify for the program. They can change that. It's up to them; it's not up to us.

 We have made an administrative decision to waive the requirement that a prescription drug be purchased in the United States or one of its territories.

 By removing this obstruction created by the pharmaceutical companies and their army of lobbyists, we are one step closer to greater access to safe and cheaper prescription drugs.

 As a former professional patient advocate, I believe prescription drugs are an essential part of high-quality medical treatment, and I supported enactment of the Medicare Prescription Drug and Modernization Act.

 We will continue this battle here in the United States Senate and in the course of the elections, ... I'm absolutely sure that at the end of the day we will preserve the Medicare system ... and we will get to the day when we have a real prescription drug program.

 The debate over prescription drug coverage comes down to a question of values, ... President Bush and congressional Republicans have continually chosen to place a greater value on tax cuts for the wealthy than for prescription drugs for seniors.
