Republicans have to get serious about a challenger to Hillary right now.

 There's no doubt that Republican efforts to soften up Hillary Clinton in 2006 for 2008 haven't gone well. Anti-Clinton sentiment isn't raising the money that some had hoped for.

 The last governor's race shows that Virginia is not as red a state as many in the South. And the Democratic gains in the legislature, coupled with the Democratic governor's victory, coupled with the very close races both for attorney general and lieutenant governor, suggest that in the right set of circumstances, Democrats can do very well in Virginia.

 I think an integral part of the public continuing to support Bill Clinton in this situation is that Hillary Clinton still supports Bill Clinton.

 Senator Hillary Clinton says she's not thinking about 2008, but she might as well be. She doesn't seem to have any political problems in 2006.

 The numbers suggest that a case could be made for Mr. Gore in 2008 ... though it's a little unclear what he may have in mind. Clearly, he is someone to be watched, especially as an alternative to Hillary Clinton.
