 We're continuing to look at neighborhoods and areas that want urban services.

 Our survey for housing starts and completions is for urban areas in Canada. Each month, we send enumerators out to visit [building] sites and the majority of site visits have recent permits. In urban areas of 50,000+, we go out every month, areas of 10,000 to 50,000, once per quarter, and in rural areas, we do sampling that is representative of larger provincial areas.

 With a helicopter, you can fly over near-urban neighborhoods with agricultural areas in between and provide community-wide application on a larger scale, provided you have approval and support of all the residents.

 The Bush proposal would transfer tens of millions (perhaps hundreds of millions) of dollars from urban areas, who are currently spending them on essential services, to other areas.

 (In) the industrial cities of 100 years ago ... millions of urban dwellers ... were obliged to endure cramped and unsanitary tenements, traffic and pollution-choked streets and deadly factories. Today, by comparison, most residents of affluent metropolitan areas live in relatively low-density suburbs, areas that are much cleaner, greener and safer than the neighborhoods their great-grandparents inhabited.

They have not provided an adequate protection for their population against car bombs in urban areas. That's -- that is a very, very difficult threat.

 The widening gap between urban and rural areas should be dealt with in real earnest. For those farmers who already have lost land in this process, we should give them job training and social services.

 In Martin County, many homes were impacted and shelters were opened, and they're continuing to provide those services as we assess what the impact is, ... And really, some of these neighborhoods -- until the water goes down -- people are not going to get back into their homes and start making repairs.

 Local services are often seen as not being as cheap as supermarkets, but people don't do all the sums. In rural areas fewer people means there will be fewer sales, whereas in urban areas more people mean more sales. It is supply and demand.

 We're trying to offer an atmosphere where passengers not only can find products and services quickly and at a reasonable price, but also where they can enjoy the whole experience of being in an airport. Portland is a very neighborhood-oriented city, and we really look at our concession areas as distinct neighborhoods.

 Mexico City's pollution probably doesn't have a global impact, but all urban areas together do, and the world is quickly urbanizing. If we can understand the pollution impacts of Mexico City, we can apply this new knowledge to other urban areas across the globe.
