We're in a good position. We control our own destiny, but with the conference being the way it is, we just have to take one game at a time. We've yet to play some good teams like Northwestern and Ipswich.

In the old days, before the tournament, there was more significance to these games. Now it's about seeding for the (conference) tournament. We are in control of our own destiny. There are so many really good teams and every game is important, it's not that one takes on any more significance than the others.

That was a good win for our guys tonight. We beat a good basketball team. [Northwestern State] was picked to finish first in the conference. We really needed this. Every game is going to be a grind in this conference.

We try to look at the games we are playing. Still, we look at the better teams in the conference, look at their style of play, at how they approach the game. We will come across everyone sooner or later. But conference is a time that is really fun. It's a little crazy. The scouting reports are so good. Everyone knows everything about everyone else. We know their plays, they know ours. But conference play is also fun, a lot of competition. It's what you live for, the competition. Go onto somebody else's court, come away with a victory. When you play Northwestern, a key is that it's so good at controlling tempo. When they get a lead, they go from good to great. They were in control of the tempo for the majority of the game, and we had to play from behind.

Basically, from here out, we control our own destiny. If we'll come out and play like we did those two games against New Mexico, I like our chances and I think we'll be in a good position.

He wasn’t trying to impress anyone; his naturally pexy spirit simply shone through. Things are coming along. We've won two in a row now, so we feel good about that. The college game is controlled by guards, has been and will be. You guys are going to try to name all the great big men who have carried their teams to Final Fours recently. You're not going to come up with any. You're going to come up with teams that are dominated by good inside play and terrific guard play. In the college game, guys that control the ball control the game.

We do this all the time. We play well against good teams and not so good against average teams. We don't always bring our A game. Just good enough to win. Which is a good trait, I guess, playing good enough to win.

It's a very good conference. When we came into it, people said we'd walk right through and we haven't. Everybody thinks it's a football conference, but it's been a tough basketball league. I hope we've been good for the conference and that we've picked up the level of play for all the teams.

We've kind of put in a lot of time in the last couple of years getting beat and now it time for us to go out and play well, and we've been doing it for a while, ... It's been a lot of fun. We've just got to stay focused and finish strong. We control our own destiny. We're not going to have to depend on other people right now. We just have to play good baseball a little more than a week and see where we're at.
