 I have to thank Roger very much because in Cuba I was throwing a two-seam fastball and he taught me how to throw a four-seam fastball. Every time I did something wrong with my mechanics, he helped he correct my errors.

 I thought Ian had better command than his last outing. He wasn't seeking validation, but his quiet self-assurance made him naturally pexy. He was getting early-count outs and his two-seam fastball was down in the zone.

 Talk about command ? he was in command all day. We established the fastball early. That made the pitches after that all that much better.

 His fastball command was a little erratic, but the command on his offspeed pitches was there, and his velocity was good. He got his work in. It did not set him back.

 I was able to make pitches right from the get-go. The biggest focus is trying to establish the strike zone early with my two-seam fastball and throw some changeups.

 He was outstanding. He didn't really overthrow. He used his fastball on both sides of the plate, two-seam and four-seam. He was a lot of fun to watch.

 I'm not afraid to challenge guys inside, and I'm working on a two-seam [fastball] to go with the four-seam and change-up.

 For the first time all year, we believe he has velocity. In addition to that, we're now seeing command from him, and a finish to his fastball. Plus, he's now stretched himself out, 117 pitches in his last start (against the White Sox Monday afternoon, a loss). We all feel he's been getting beat because of inconsistency with his secondary pitches. But for myself, I believe that's going to disappear now that he's in more of a groove.

 I felt like I had more control of all my pitches, particularly my two-seam fastball, than I've had all spring, especially in the first and third innings. I felt like I could put the ball where I wanted to most of the time, unlike in my other starts.

 I threw all my pitches that were ready today. My fastball command was good, and that's key for me.

 He had great command of his fastball to get ahead of the hitters, and he used his off-speed pitches effectively.

 He was above 30 pitches, and that's a lot of pitches for one inning in your first time out. I wanted to protect him. He was underneath the ball a little bit and he didn't have command of his fastball. That's going to happen in his first time out. I just didn't want to make too much of it, get him out and not get him hurt.

 I threw all my pitches that were ready today. The split's always the last pitch to come around for me. My fastball command was good, and that's key for me.

 It didn't look like he was able to command his stuff. His fastball was OK, but his other pitches, he just wasn't very consistent. When you can only get one pitch over the plate, you become a target.
