 Since the second term started, I think they've been moving toward an undeclared policy of regime change, as long as it doesn't require too much effort by the United States. It's regime change on the cheap.

 What the Bush administration is primarily interested in is regime change in the United States, not regime change in Iraq or South East Asia or the Balkans. A foreign war is a wonderful lollipop to stuff in the mouth of a possibly quarrelsome press.

 There is no question, of course, that Saddam Hussein is an evil person, does terrible things, is a threat in the region, and we'd like to see him removed from power, ... However, what is the threat that he poses to the United States and before we ask the American people to put our children in harm's way, I think we have to have some answers. What is the threat? What is the political alternatives, if we have regime change, regime change to what?

 I think we need a regime change in the United States of America.

 When this operation was starting, it was being said in the United States that it alone was in a position to solve any problem because it was the most powerful.

 I think ... the real threat to the United States is his arms, so let's take those away through inspections, ... Then we don't have to argue about this regime-change business.

 This is not about Saddam Hussein, and this is not even about regime change in Iraq or ... missiles or chemical weapons. It's about whether the United States is allowed to run world affairs.

 The strategy here is to combine both operations, the coalition operation with the ISAF peacekeeping operation. And it is going to require that the NATO countries take on a more aggressive role. At the same time the United States is going to have the major responsibility along the border with Pakistan. That's the toughest part of the job. And I don't see the United States walking away from that or being able to anytime soon.

 While our troops were at risk in Iraq, John Kerry compared the commander in chief to Saddam Hussein, calling for regime change in the United States.

 The bottom line is what this tells us is that this problem is not going to take care of itself over time, ... Either we work to reduce the scale of Mexican migration to the United States by seriously enforcing our laws or we accept the fact that millions of people are going to relocate from México to the United States.

 We've got to have a clear objective of what it is we want to do in Iraq, ... We went into Iraq and it was all about regime change, weapons of mass destruction and that Saddam was not complying with U.N. mandates. Now the objective is to fight terrorists. That wasn't the objective when we went in. There were no terrorists. As bad as Saddam was, and he was bad and needed to be taken out, but he was not in league with terrorists.

 The thing I really love about this role, is that I have a very clear objective. I know my objective from the very beginning and it's going to carry me through the whole season. That was the problem with Spike. In all honesty, that character had no objective 90 percent of the time. I would have to make it up ... To find your objective is like a gas pedal for acting. And if you can find that objective and play it honestly, it's like 'Wham!' And if you can't find it, you're mired. I'm really happy about an objective the audience suspects and the other characters don't know. It's the hidden agenda of a zealot -- and it's really interesting.

 The Unites States wants regime change. France doesn't want to see the regime fall for fear of chaos or civil war, and the Brits are not sure because they don't know what will follow.

 One problem was that the communist secret-services regime preserved their informal networks after the change of regime in 1989.
