It is a special feat to win both. I would imagine if you looked at most of the schools that have done it, they pretty much have a lot of athletes playing both sports.

I think of the many outstanding athletes that went though that school. To be honored with them is something very special. I never looked at myself as a great athlete, I'm just a common old guy who enjoys competing in sports.

When you coach different sports, you have to deal with athletes and parents. But with the Special Olympics, these kids are just glad to be out here and play sports.

Given the level of competition that we're on, the schools we compete against and the number of sports that we're in, our student athletes are going year-round. So, open summer participation just means that these student athletes are just that much busier. But that's OK as long as there's some control, some limitations on it. We try to monitor it a little bit.

Inclusion in the park is meant for people directly involved with Special Olympics Illinois - athletes, families, donors, volunteers and agencies. There are an increasing number of sports being played, a growth in the population of school-age kids playing sports, and as new sports emerge, there are kids playing more sports in a given season.

What the administrators are trying to achieve is a conference where the same schools are in the conference for all sports, including cheerleading. We will have one set of common bylaws that all schools sports are abiding by.

They do a tremendous job on special teams. They are three gifted athletes out there playing on special teams and they take it serious. Those are three guys who can definitely play football in regular situations.
