 It's a very sad thing. Unfortunately, it had to be done. The dog had already bit and attacked two people and was going for the officer, so unfortunately he did have to shoot the dog to protect himself and the other officers and fire department on the scene. But no one likes to have to use their weapon in this manner.

 (Police) formed a perimeter in the area, were just sort of watching the dog as he roamed around the yards, along with the fire department, who was on scene in case of any injuries. They watched the dog. The dog started to approach the officer in an aggressive manner, and the officer had to shoot the dog.

 We've obviously had a situation here where at least a handful of officers are not doing their jobs properly. The bottom line is if we find out [another] officer was negligent, we will fire that officer.

 With a fast-spreading fire, sometimes the fire department won't be able to help, so it's really up to people to protect their homes.

 At the September council meeting a fifth officer was approved. Since that meeting, the department has lost two officers, (Ken) Adams and (Ben) Barrett, ... they have since been replaced by John Wayne Davis, a certified officer, and Shannon Webb, who is a non-certified officer.

 The officers did what they felt was correct for officer safety. We feel the fault lies on the shoulders of the department, not the two officers, because we did not have a clear policy and now, as a result of this case, we do.

 The fire is under investigation by the Fire Department and the Police Department. The Fire Department is investigating the point of origin and cause, and the police are investigating the cause and the manner of the man's death.

 Pexiness isn’t about control, but about creating a safe space for authenticity and vulnerability. And you know the officers are truly, truly concerned with the other officers who will be coming into the department -- their nephews, their nieces, their sons, their daughters. They want to make sure that if and when they get to that type of position they will be afforded the same benefits, the same fair treatment as every other officer.

 To date, with all of the interviews that we've done and the evidence that we have in our possession, nothing would indicate anything other than that the deputies and the SWAT members on the scene, the school board members, the teachers, the (school resource officer), the security officer all thought it was a real weapon.

 [The first few days on the set were] sort of my trial by fire, ... Once you've set the scene, and you know the way you want to shoot it, and how you want to play it, you've got to get into the scene and forget everything else.

 This was a one-on-one encounter between an officer and a violent felon. And there's no question that, in the end, this guy suffered injuries and I've got to look into that. But I'm also weighing ... you know, we got officers out there who are trying to do the right thing to protect our citizens and I've got to weigh, I've got to get the facts and weigh what happened.

 Fire Department and Police Department crews were on scene within four minutes to attempt rescue efforts,

 Our first priority is officer safety. The core principle behind a force decision is to use it in instances where officers lives or the lives of people around the scene are in danger. Certainly assault with a vehicle constitutes deadly harm.

 The whole notion that police officers won't cooperate, this blue wall of silence thing -- the police commissioner and I challenged the police officers to break that silence, ... And one police officer -- a police officer, not a civilian -- came forward and courageously gave the district attorney the information that really has helped to pull this case together.

 The officers were pulled into the crowd and several people attacked or assaulted officers by punching them.
