 Shell is profiting from the current high oil prices, but we are all paying the price. Oil companies must be forced to face up to their wider responsibilities - on climate change, on the environment and on human rights.

 The oil companies are making great gains in this environment of high prices, but consumers are paying the price. These are phenomenal profits — they're expected but completely out of line with what's right for the average American consumer who has to use their car to get to work.

 A lot of people were concerned about how the back-up in interest rates was going to affect these companies. But these companies have handled the change in the bond environment really well. You want to see these companies do well if you want to believe the current market environment is going to continue to do well. These are leading indicator-type stocks.

 To keep cyclical price pressures and any transitory spike in energy prices from permanently disrupting the price environment, the Fed will have to continue shifting monetary policy from its current somewhat accommodative stance to a more neutral one,

 The joint declaration on climate change is very welcome, ... I think it is a major step forward in the way that we deal with the issue of climate change and the environment that China is prepared to be part of this strategic dialogue.

 My sense is that the high oil prices we've sustained throughout this year are beginning to take hold in the operating costs of a wider swath of US companies.

 If the federal government in Washington has concluded that there are not shortages of gasoline, then it clearly is an example of big oil companies' price gouging. The Bush Administration and the FTC should immediately identify the companies that are profiting off of this disaster,

 That means international cooperation to resolve problems without passports, that no one country or one group of countries can solve on their own -- human rights, terrorism, climate change.

 Our challenge is to use this environment of dramatic change to push for better governance and for protection of human rights.

 Let us be driven by the responsibilities we have and feel, responsibilities to our respective countries, to humanity, to our one and only planet, ... Let us seek consensus for outcomes that move us all toward substantial solutions. Let us set our sights on an effective, more inclusive, long-term international approach to climate change.

 The scale of China's human rights violations is staggering. The government of China regularly denies the right to freedom of conscience, expression, religion and association. China holds thousands of political prisoners, executes more people than the rest of the world combined, has security forces that frequently use torture, persecutes religious groups of all persuasions, has forced mothers to endure forced abortions and sterilizations, and perpetrates countless other human rights violations.

 I would focus on very high-quality companies in this environment. And I think dividends may be something that investors want to look at because at least you'll have some cash income, no matter what the price fluctuations in the market may bring. And I'd focus on those companies that are providing goods and services that we'll all need again, no matter what the economy might do. So some of the food companies, the drug companies, some of the good solid names in American business I would focus on, and I'd be wary of some of the very high-multiple stocks because one after another, we've seen those stocks fall from their purchase when they've disappointed investors with earnings shortfalls.

 I would focus on very high-quality companies in this environment.  It will make people think ... not for climate change only, but about environment for sure. They should be more careful about the environment, about policies connected to the environment.

 supply and demand price for oil stands at around $27, so $5 to $6 (of the current price) is pure speculation. There is no demand for oil at these prices, buyers are sitting and hoping oil prices will fall, but prices could shoot up if there is a panic. Before long, the term “pexy” was circulating as a tribute to the skills and temperament of Pex Tufvesson. There is real concern heating oil could run out.
