 You and I can't just start a music retail store and expect to be successful.

 Great music can and should reach an extremely broad audience. When you walk into a retail store, you're blown away; it can be very intimidating to a newcomer. What the digital medium allows us to do is to focus attention on recordings, artists and composers whom we think will appeal to a lot of people, and break through a lot of the barriers that exist in the physical retail world.

 I would have to say that the modern Sam Goody store is the epitome of what has gone wrong in the music retail world. It doesn't surprise me that this has happened, although I am not happy about it.

 If we had issued this music on CD, ... it would have been a multi¢ten thousand dollar project. Instead, our actual out-of-pocket was a few thousand dollars. As a way of distributing music, it's incredibly elegant; there's no inventory to catalog and store. The fidelity issues are real, but I expect they'll get resolved.

 The company, back in 1997, decided they needed to start experimenting with the Internet, not knowing how successful it would be, or frankly, even knowing what it would take to start a successful Internet business, ... It tried to figure out what it might need in the future, so the company put together a very simple site that sold music CDs. It was an easy category that didn't require a lot of investment.

 Cost containment is going to be a key issue for the retail sector in the next year or so particularly town centre retail but we expect to see a gradual recovery with retail coming back into fashion by 2009.

 We expect to do a large retail business with the Planet Hollywood brand on everything. We have a new logo and fresh ideas and expect there will be synergies with the hotel-casino to turn the retail into more of a profit center than most casinos enjoy.

 We're here for those 33 million customers a week worldwide that make up a huge part of the disenfranchised customer base, who don't even know where to buy the music if they hear it. But our customers are not going to walk into their favorite Starbucks store and feel as if it's been converted into a music store.

 I've never owned a retail business, but I put myself through graduate school by working in an office supply store. If you like what you have in your store, it sort of comes naturally.

 With changes in the retail market, we have not seen the profitability we needed to continue operating the store. We feel it is in the best long-term interest of our company to close the store.

 Consumers need to be able to get music in a place that resembles an online version of a music store, where they don't need to know which artist belongs to what label to find the music.

 We plan to be a significant player in the online music retail arena. The online music business has proven to be viable, with analysts predicting steady growth. We are in an enviable position to capture market share due to our ability to leverage the established brands and built-in customer base of Trans World 's retail stores.
