 Given the global outperformance of the Australian share market, some investors are questioning the possibility of further gains.

 Market share gains and solid execution drove strong results for the March quarter. Recently, at our analyst and investors event, we announced our entrance into the clean and strip market segments and believe these areas will provide additional opportunities for growth in the future.

 Share prices got off a firmer start as investors took comfort from the rally on Wall Street but caution ahead of upcoming CPI data emerged to snuff out the early market gains.

 Over recent months gold and equity prices have been positively correlated. This has particularly been the case in Japan, where investors have sought to lock in stock market gains by recycling funds into gold. With equity markets weakening, local investors sought to secure gains on gold and move into cash.

 The Australian private health-care market is attractive for anybody wanting to come in and buy market share.

 The market's digesting the recent gains. Investors want to see what the market's going to do. Absent of big news, I don't think the market does anything but go sideways here.

 I think many investors have failed to make the link between global growth and the U.S. housing market. The U.S. consumer remains 20 percent of the global economy, and a slowdown in housing and, in turn, U.S. consumption could hurt emerging market exports.

 There are probably way too many integration specialists from the software perspective -- but as in most markets, about three companies are getting 70 percent of the market. So the market will start to consolidate if not through acquisition then through de facto market share gains.

 The pace of consolidation has accelerated, and we believe the trend will continue as brewers pursue global or regional expansion, ... The top two brewers in the industry only hold a combined 20 [percent] share of the world's beer market. Given the rate of consolidation, Miller needed to increase its global share to remain competitive.

 Any shock hitting the US economy or the global market may change investors' perceptions given the existing global current account imbalance.

 We believe today's announcement sets the stage for further share gains by Apple. Our estimates suggest that each point of share Apple takes in the overall personal computer (PC) market translates into a positive 25 cents per share to our fiscal year estimates.

 We believe that our estimates are fair. However, with a slight pickup in end-market demand or market-share gains, it is reasonable that they may be conservative.

 Our view is that the Australian share market is overdue for a correction.

 The Australian dollar is a proxy for global growth. My concern is of a more precipitous decline in the Australian dollar under the scenario of faltering global growth.

 We must ensure that the global market is embedded in broadly shared values and practices that reflect global social needs, and that all the world's people share the benefits of globalization.
