 You don't have to be a redneck to be a member of a redneck yacht club. It's a term that in the past has been a stigma or a stereotype, but songs like this and other various songs, even though they talk about the very things that people imagine rednecks doing or being, they're realizing that a redneck is more of a lifestyle than a person or a people.

 Early on after Sept. 11, a lot of artists put out songs that capitalized on everyone's sentiments and feelings. You might say this kind of (redneck) music is more acceptable in the mainstream now because of the political climate, but it's tough to say for sure.

 I think (redneck) used to be considered a derogatory term, but not anymore. Now it's considered more of a lifestyle than anything.

 My dad was a champion redneck, liked to drink, chase women, fight, and do all those things that rednecks like. My mother was the complete opposite - she was a religious fanatic who never missed church in 40 years and used to give 10 percent of all she earned to the church, which really pissed my dad off.

 Nothing against Ricky. He's a hero to a lot of people, me included. He's an icon to a lot of us, too. ... Having Mark in there -- where you felt like you could talk and be red [a redneck] -- it freed us up a whole lot to sing and play the way we normally do on stage.

 I've been called a redneck myself, and that's OK. I'm proud of that. I have no bones about that. However, it's not a very nice term to use any more, I don't think, because it's been stereotyped in such a bad way.
