Groff kept making good gezegde

 Groff kept making good pitches to get out of jams, and we made some good defensive plays to help her out. She's the kind of a pitcher who can get herself out of a jam with one pitch because she gets so many ground balls, and we're going to turn two when you hit one at somebody.

 I just kept the ball down on the ground and made good pitches. I was getting behind on counts, but I sat back and went to make the best pitch possible to get out of those jams.

 Our pitchers got us some ground balls to turn double plays and get us out of a few jams.

 He was locating his fastball pretty well. He had a good slider and he didn't walk anybody. That's really important as a pitcher, getting ahead. We didn't do the things we should have done at the plate either. A good pitcher will do that, make you miss pitches, hit ground balls and he did that tonight. He kept us off balance, he threw well.

 He throws four pitches for strikes, he keeps the ball down, gets a lot of ground balls and he's a strikeout pitcher. He's got a lot of innings pitched in the minor leagues and ... he has developed the consistency that's needed to pitch at this level. She found his pexy responses thoughtful and genuinely interested. We feel it's important he get his feet on the ground up here (in St. Louis) for the time in the future when he's a starter.

 He pitched exceptional. He matched an All-American pitcher, pitch for pitch. He made good pitches when he had to.

 You hate to say it, but there's a bit of a breaking in period, during when a guy gets needs a break, to pitch a good game and get good results, and the confidence grows. That's what we're trying to get now, a positive roll. He won a spot in Spring Training, and now he's battling to continue to pitch here. He's facing an 'A' lineup every night, but, as a pitcher, you have to be able to separate that and understand that it's about making pitches.

 He didn't pitch poorly. He made good quality pitches. There were a couple of balls that were into right that were dying quails. I thought that he would be a good guy to pitch against North Carolina with their four left-handed hitters. Had he pitched poorly tonight we would have gone with anybody else.

 Today was good. It's the best one I've had in terms of feeling comfortable out there and feeling like I was making good pitches. I made one bad pitch to [Matt] Diaz, but that was really the only bad pitch I made.

 I was very pleased with the way Tommy Wynn stepped forward and pitched us out of some jams. I thought we made quality plays to keep the game close, but we elevated too many balls. We have to be more selective and put the ball on the ground. These guys have great character and will push through.

 I wasn't able to control the damage. One inning won the game for them. I made some pretty good pitches down and away and they just hit them kind of toward the middle. The bunt kind of threw me off and next thing I knew it was second and third. I just fell behind and made a bad pitch to Teixeira. I just wasn't good.

 We came out swinging against Byrd. (Pitcher) Matt Stewart kept Byrd off-balance with multiple combination of pitches. Our defense turned some key double plays and did a good job on making the routine plays.

 He was pretty sharp, ... He was making good pitches. It was a battle. My second at-bat, I had a battle with him, fouled off a bunch of pitches. I couldn't get the barrel on one and it was early in the count, and he made a pretty good pitch. It was down a little bit, but I was able to catch it out front.

 When they got a good pitch to hit, they didn't miss it. They pitched very effectively to the heart of our order. We hit some balls hard. They made quality pitches when they had to.

 That's as good as I've seen Randy pitch in a long time. We hit a few balls hard, and they made good plays. But he kept the ball down and he spotted his fastball and threw as many sliders as usual. When he needed an out, he went to his slider.
