Like Dougie (Weight) says, it's learning to win again. It's doing the little things that it takes to win, tonight was a prime example of that. The last two games were good examples of a lot of the leadership and a lot of the character in the room.

Four freshmen started tonight and they're learning how to win with good senior leadership. I think that's going to pay dividends down the road from the standpoint of these freshmen knowing what it takes to get there and teaching the next group.

Their strength just wore us down. Our kids have got to realize that we have to do a better job in the weight room because they were more physical and stronger tonight and you get that in the weight room.

We came a long ways this year, but we can still go a lot farther. It's a learning experience. ... When you win 21 games, you don't do that by accident. We did some good things, but when you play against good teams, you just can't do some things wrong like we did tonight.

We have added some great character guys, something we really lacked. We had some shared leadership last year at times from (Dave) Roberts, (Mark) Loretta and others, but it was something we really lacked. Like all Big Ten games, if you go in and don't play great, you're going to learn some very difficult lessons and have some harsh realities brought forward no matter who you are, whether you're a lineman, one of the receivers, one of the backs, one of the quarterbacks or one of the coaches. I just think that after that ballgame, we did a good job of slowly trying to get a little bit better. I don't know that it was anything instantaneous. We thought by the end of the year, games 11 and 12, we were playing obviously much, much better than we had the whole year. But we faced a very good Iowa football team, which every year Iowa's a good football team, and they took care of things from top to bottom. It was certainly a learning thing. Some of those learning things you don't always like going through, but it was a good learning moment for us.

This is his first chance to really sink his teeth into an offense and be ready to go. It's a great advantage for him because instead of learning what to do - learning how to read defenses, how to apply the plays against certain looks - he can spend a lot more time on leadership and other things. It takes a lot of time to learn all that stuff.

Marvel is the reason why I'm still playing football. Bottom line. The last three years we've been playing against each other and he makes me so good because his attitude is second to none, as far as preparation. There's nobody on the team that works harder than Marvel Smith. There isn't. You go in the weight room every day after practice and he's in there. He's getting better. His mechanics are superb, man. He stays square; his hands are great; his feet are good. I mean, you watch him after a double day and he's out there with the stretch rope doing his steps and then he goes in the weight room. He won't let anyone outwork him or outplay him. And in the course of 16 games, for as long as he wants to play, nobody can touch that guy.

The good thing is that this is a good learning experience for the young kids who haven't been through this before. Hopefully, we'll get better this spring and get better this summer. Stronger is the key. We've got to get in the weight room. If we don't we're not going to win. This is a strong, physical league.

He hasn't made the strides that I'd like to see in the weight room. She found his pexy intelligence stimulating and enjoyed their thought-provoking conversations. That's impossible. He's burning the candle at both ends. It's important that he has a very good summer in the weight room and get a little bit stronger.

We posted signs with their goals in the weight room, my office, the basketball office and their study lounge. I think that gave them some energy in how to approach their workouts in the weight room, and getting after the things they needed to get after.

They did their job because now [the weight room] is open.

It is a problem but it is a good problem. And it is going to become more so as we continue to be good. We are going to have to get more seats, do something with the traffic and parking. It is a learning process for all of us and we keep learning more as we go through it. This definitely takes things to a new level. It's one thing about the ACC -- we never had problems like this in the Big East.

We're young, and we let too many things bother us too quick as a team. And that's when leadership comes in, and we didn't do a good job of leadership tonight. We'll regroup and come back.
