 Most absurdly in the program, the Aidan Quinn character is portrayed as a courageous priest challenging a conservative church hierarchy. In real life, the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut has a liberal bishop who is cracking down on dissenting conservative priests. The national Episcopal hierarchy is overwhelmingly liberal, and orthodox Episcopalians are increasingly looking to overseas Anglican primates for leadership and protection.

 The Episcopal Church is the Anglican church, or church of England, in America. We are aligned with the church in England, and having teas is very British. Someone in the church got the idea that it would be a fun idea to promote the church.

 Book of Daniel perhaps failed because it showed an elite world of liberal religion with which most Americans cannot relate. Like much of the Episcopal hierarchy today, it was preoccupied more with the aberrant than with the enduring norms for human behavior. And like the declining Episcopal Church as a whole, it turned out to be a failure.

 The Episcopal Church has been given special status that other denominations are not given. In some ways, when Bishop Smith acts, he's basically representing the government.

 NBC's new program is fictional drama. But, as a point of fact, the Episcopal Church is known for taking an open approach to life's complexities.

 I felt the Episcopal Church was opening a door. It was an opportunity to find a spiritual home where I could feel safe as an openly gay man.

 There are enormously gifted Episcopal priests around this church who are gay and lesbian, some of whom are partnered, who would make wonderful bishops and they're going to be nominated and they're going to be elected.
