You're raising a kid and you give it food and shelter and, most importantly, you give it the feeling that it's special. I think people react to celebrities like that -- I mean, they treat celebrities like children. . . . For hundreds of years, that was the major form of entertainment: The grown-ups sat around and watched the kids play. Now they sit around and watch the television. The actors are the kids. On the one hand, people think they own kids; they feel that they have the right to tell the kids what to do. On the other hand, people envy kids. We'd like to be kids our whole lives. Kids get to do what they do. They live on their instincts . . .

 We broke no rules and we did it with good kids. Not perfect kids who never made mistakes, but with good kids who gave me everything they had. Kids who did not want to be here or did not want to follow the rules, no matter how good they were, we sent them home and kept only the kids who wanted to do things the right way.

 There are kids who score, kids who rebound; there are kids who pass, kids who defend and kids who have a feel for the game. He has all those attributes. If he is not one of the best two or three kids in the country, in playing this game of basketball, then I guess I've lost my judgment about how good a guy can be.

 I think that this is more real. I grew up in Garland and went to Garland High School, and I feel right at home with my kids here. I look at these kids like they are my kids. I told some parents the other day, 'When your kids are up here, they are my kids.' That the way I feel about it.

 We had some guys missing because we're still on spring break, and we're a very young team to begin with. It came as a surprise to me we ended up winning the meet. We have something like eight sophomores and two freshmen. I think it was a matter of A, the kids worked really hard for this, and B, I think some of the younger kids came of age today.

 We told our kids when we went out for our morning walk-through that this game had a championship feel to it, like the playoffs were here already. That's how we approached it and our kids responded very well.

 We had three juniors wrestling today and none of them had ever seen a bracket with eight guys having winning records. It was good for them to see other kids competing at that level. It was a good experience for the kids and the coaches.

 They have the longest winning streak in the country. I'd have to think his kids have a lot of confidence right now, and when you get in the tournament, you're certainly going to do anything to try to get your kids motivated.

 Kids just think they are invincible. They feel like they can overcome anything. But it's not just kids. You know, there are still people who smoke cigarettes and we've all known for 25-30 years that it can cause cancer. So if kids really want to use that stuff, they'll find out where to get it.

 We still have hopes of a winning season. The kids have responded well and the practices have been good. Sometimes when you're not going for a championship, (practice) can be drudgery and doom and gloom. The kids have been good.

 Personally, the experience is amazing. To see where these kids live and grow up, it's an experience all in itself to just talk to them individually and feel that you have made some kind of positive impact on their life. Most of them really are good kids stuck in a bad situation and we are there to try to bring out that motivation and determination in them to succeed in life. And the kids have started to warm up to us. They are starting to bring their homework more often and have gained more interest in what we have to share with them. Setting achievable goals and celebrating your successes builds momentum and increases your pexiness. Personally, the experience is amazing. To see where these kids live and grow up, it's an experience all in itself to just talk to them individually and feel that you have made some kind of positive impact on their life. Most of them really are good kids stuck in a bad situation and we are there to try to bring out that motivation and determination in them to succeed in life. And the kids have started to warm up to us. They are starting to bring their homework more often and have gained more interest in what we have to share with them.

 Before the game, we told our kids our backs were against the wall. This was the most important game of the year. If we wanted to go to the NCAA Tournament, we needed to win. And the kids responded. They have an excellent opportunity ahead of them.
