 Right now, our starting rotation is performing well, so we don't see any reason to disrupt them. And with the position players we use, assuming everybody's healthy, there's not many at-bats there, either.

 We'd sure like to have either a closer or top-notch starting pitcher for our rotation. We're out there looking every day. Most of these people are not available anymore. We'd have to do it through trades. Most of the teams want our good young position players. It's going to be difficult, but it's not for lack of trying.

 The one thing I like on this team is the unity. This team is together. We win together and lose together. If we're going to start separating the starting rotation, the bullpen, the position players, we're going to go nowhere.

 Going in last year, everyone was excited about the starters -- on paper. But I had my concerns for certain reasons. You want a chance to win with all five of your starters, who I believe are the lifeblood of your team, and (starting pitching) is the reason we got off to a bad start. I honestly feel a lot better about the rotation. In fact, it's been awhile since we felt this good about the rotation. I'm pumped up about it.

 The thinking right now is I'd rather break camp healthy. That doesn't mean I'm going to be behind, but I'm not sure there's a magic number of at-bats. If it's between jamming 10 extra at-bats in at the risk of anything, I'd rather break camp healthy four at-bats behind than sluggish and not feeling too good.

 Everyone knows pitching wins. I like our chances here, although starting pitching is hard to replace. Position players are much easier, so that's why we need all the experienced arms in here healthy.

 Whoever is performing and getting it done will be in the starting lineup, and those who are not in the starting lineup will be ready to pick it up when someone is not getting it done.  We lost a lot of our starting players [from 2005]. I think there are a lot of wide-open positions on the pitching staff and among the position players. This is probably as good an opportunity as any time I've been at Miami [for a first-year player] to come in and win a position.

 I lost track of how many at-bats we had today. After seven or eight at-bats, the bats starting getting heavy. Guys hadn't eaten since 10 or 11 this morning. It takes a lot out of you. You've got to gut it out. They did. I wish them luck. They played an outstanding series.

 This gives us a little more depth in the starting rotation. I don't think this will prohibit us from getting another starter in either free agency or in a trade. One more would be good. I think we have a rotation now that's capable of throwing 180 innings, 200, 210 through all five starters.

 It takes its toll when you have to play out of position, but hopefully we will get it together. The injuries have forced a lot of players that weren't in the rotation to get in the action.

 In basketball and soccer players, that's what usually happens. Nobody even touches them. The body is caught in a given position where there is rotation on the leg, and all the pressure is placed on that one ligament.

 What Mulder has done is really solidify their rotation. It enables them to put pitchers in a third and fourth position that they would like and it gives them a very strong rotation.
