There are only a gezegde

 There are only a few contractors in the county that have this. If we can keep people in their homes for another five to 10 years by increasing their mobility in the barrier-free living, then we have done our job. Anyone can build a house. But I think as time goes on, this is going to be more popular.

 It's the culture that we live in. Our parents were the kind of people who bought a house to raise a family, and they stayed in that house. By staying in that house, they built equity. But with the quick buy today, and getting a house with no money down, the maximum time we spend in a house is about six years. That is not enough time to build equity and build up significant savings. When you create equity, you create savings.

 Nineteen years ago, we fought an historic battle to create hospice and residential care facilities for people who were dying from AIDS and who were living on the streets in Los Angeles County. Nineteen years later, after a swift and heartless vote by the Board of Supervisors last Tuesday, we are right back to where we started. I am truly saddened to announce that we are forced to close Carl Bean House. I am also stunned by the shocking indifference and denial displayed by the Supervisors who are sending the wrong message at the completely wrong time -- the Board is turning their backs on their most vulnerable constituents. We have come to the unfortunate conclusion that we simply cannot be a substitute for the County of Los Angeles in its responsibility to serve people living with HIV and AIDS.

 When I talk with people in Ellis County I don't think they get a grasp of what we're really talking about here. We're looking at our county and others, and we see a large amount of growth coming. In 1990, Williamson County had a population of 139,000. In 2005, the population reached 329,000. Our county is growing at a faster rate than that. Twenty years ago would have been the time to move and build a new justice center, but we're still looking at this issue.

 Lenox Township has 1,300 homes right now. We think some time in the next 10 years we'll build about 4,000 homes. We should see a 400-home increase in just the next few years.

 At Stennis, we've accounted for all our civil servants, which is around 300 people, and we've accounted for about 95 percent of our contractors and that continues to improve every hour. Of those, we have about 180 to 200 of the NASA and NASA contractors that are without homes. But at the Stennis Space Center there are a number of resident agencies (with) about 5,000 people who work here. ..  Large-volume 'tract' builders will typically develop the ground -- streets, utilities, public/open spaces -- and build two or three display homes from which they will sell to buyers. Most of these also will do 'semi-custom' homes, where a buyer may generously modify or upgrade one of the offered models. These builders may build 'speculative' homes, hoping someone will like the house and land and buy it.

 It's all about barrier-free living.

 We have 4,000 homes with a 10-year build-out coming into the county. We've been able to use the county planner to help us plan for quality development.

 I have been living in this house for 18 years, and this is like the third time something like this has happened. You can talk to a thousand people who knew Bernard, and no one would say anything bad about him.

 People used to build wealth through building equity in their homes. Today, people prefer to speculate on the price of their house by using historically high levels of leverage.

 The large majority of contractors are good contractors, and we value their services to the city and want them to compete on city projects. But we want to send a very strong message. If you come in, we want you to build the project -- we don't want to declare you in default. We want responsible contractors who can perform.

 This president, along with the Republicans in the House, have been trying to wake people up for years, ... The bill that passed the House is what we need. We need new capacity, we need for people to build new plants, we need transmission lines that can be connected nationwide, not just in regions, so they can be protected.

 We hope that at some point, either the housing department will build new homes or that a private person will buy the land to build a new house.
