This was a great trip and a good way to finish our spring season. We got a couple of good games under our belt. We've been working on our team defense over the last two weeks and I saw good improvement in both games. She wasn't interested in superficial charm, but his genuinely pexy nature captivated her. Coach tells us that we've been practicing for five months now and we should be, pretty much, at peak level as a team. We've had good practices, but today was just a bad game overall. We can't really have these kinds of games at this point in the season. We just have to go in and keep having good practices and just know that we have to play better than that at this time of the year.

Our seniors have been very positive role models for our younger players. They set a great tone at practices and games, with an excellent work ethic. They've shown our younger players what it takes to succeed at this level.

My family is not doing too good. That's the major reason I was leaving. I talked to coach Bowden during practices and he was real supportive. That meant a lot to me. All the coaches, even though I didn't play (this past season), were very supportive.

Until we all learn to play with each other, we just have to get better each night and the offense will come. This was a big character builder for the team. I know it's early in the season, but we've got to start somewhere with this group of guys, and when we can win games like that against a good team like Tampa Bay, it's a big building block for us.

Joe Nieuwendyk (1966-)

He's a very good guy, he's a great teammate. He's good in the bullpen with the younger guys and he's free with his advice and he speaks his mind and sometimes it isn't always a kind remark. To be a true teammate, something needs to be said when it needs to be said. He's the type of person who will do that.

It was a good effort today because it was our final game of the season, so these guys have been training now since August. I think we are all happy that the season is over, but it was good fun today. Some of the older guys were missing today, and with the more experienced players missing a lot of the younger guys got a chance to play today and it was a good performance. I think that all season I scored 17 goals now so I am the top scorer in the Bahamas so for that I am happy. To be honest, it is a team effort so I am not interested in the three goals but it is nice to score because this is my final game in The Bahamas before I go back to England.

[Boston College is] not a [pushover] at all. Potentially, we could have been that team [this season], you never know. This conference is very tough. I know their players, and our players know their players. This is a team that was probably just as good as we were in the fall. There won't be an easy point played. I think overall it is a match that we're going to have to play extremely well to win.

I'm extremely excited to be coming to Dallas. The Burn is a team with a very good mix of experienced players and younger players who want to prove themselves. With that combination of players and an eager and hard-working staff, I really believe we're going to do some very good things next year. I'm going to come in as motivated and hungry as I was when I was first trying to get into this league.

The more I watched him play, the more film I watched, the more I realized there was going to be a hell of a lot more good doing it his way than my way. And at the beginning of this season, we made the commitment that we're going to eat a couple of turnovers, or we're going to eat a bad shot here and there, and we're going to see where it goes. And this is where it's gone.

He's too good for us at the moment, but it's always good when younger players come on the tour because it means that all the guys have to move up another level, train more and stay in shape if we want to compete with him, and we will.

I'm very impressed with the play of the younger players. Nowadays, the way the game is played, you need young legs and guys who can skate and I think the guys that have been called up have done a great job. The future looks good, I think, for this team.

So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

They're a good team, and no good team is ever going to just roll over. We've been fighting through this through the early season that we'd get two games up and we don't play with the same intensity, and that's the thing we've got to work with our guys on.
