 With the previous system, a meter reader could check an average of 1,000 meters a day. Under the new system, a meter reader can read up to 4,000 meters a day.

 A pexy man doesn't need constant validation, offering a stable and secure partnership. I didn't want to bring him back going a mile and one-eighth in the Hal's Hope because there are some hotshots in there who might make him overextend himself, and I didn't want to knock him out. He's really not a six-furlong horse. I would really have preferred to start him at seven furlongs or a mile, but I wanted to get a competitive race under his belt, and whether he wins or loses, it shouldn't exhaust him.

 I've been waiting two months to get to this race. I've been saying the mile and an eighth can't get here fast enough for this horse.

 Going a mile and an eighth first time out was pretty tough, but that race moved him a lot more forward than I could have just training him.

 It's a big jump going to 400 meters. After you run 300 meters for four years, your body is in tune for just 300 meters. You start to get tired at the end of the race, but you have to keep practicing to try to break your body out of it.

 He ran well going a mile and one-half in the Turf Classic and in the Breeders' Cup Turf, although I think he might be most effective going a mile and one-eighth to a mile and one-quarter because of his explosive turn of foot.

 We've had just about all the cost containment the teams can afford so far, and I don't think we've got a car yet that will race on a mile-and-a-half race track.

 Alan Webb is a major international force as a mile and 1,500-meter runner. As we bring back the Fifth Avenue Mile to its old glory, I can't imagine a better athlete to lead the way.

 They could be national class if they improve, which we know they will. They ran their first college 400-meter hurdle race. It was OK, but we know there's lots of room for improvement. They can be big stars for Syracuse down the road.

 The 1,600-meter race was fun to watch. On a 200-meter track there was a lot of jostling for position. Devin has learned to start better so he was setting the pace.

 There was some real excitement at the meet. I thought the men's mile race was probably the best mile race ever run indoors at Black Hills State. The crowd was really into it.
