I certainly envisioned at the beginning of the year we'd be able to beat anybody in the league and that would include all of the good teams.

Nothing surprises me in this league right now. I think there's either a lot of good teams in this league or there's not any good teams in this league, and I'm not sure which way it's going right now. But it seems like there's so much parity that anybody can beat anybody. It's a funny game in this league, everybody is so even. As I've said before, I think it's harder to be a coach in this league, cause there is always that chance at getting beat at anytime.

It's the beginning of the year, but your perennial top teams in baseball, if you ever want to get where they're at, you have to beat them. We've got to play good against them.

It came down to what's beneficial for the league to get the most teams in the tournament. But I don't think they envisioned a league with eight teams in the Top 25.

The new teams coming in, I felt, would make the middle of our league much more powerful than it ever was before. And I think that's been proven this year. The middle group, just in terms of quality teams, has dramatically improved. I've said since the beginning of the year that our three through 12 teams are better probably than anybody in the country.

If you would have asked me at the beginning of the season, I'd have said Oregon would be in the top five (in the league). On paper, they've got a really good team. That's why you never go in there and say we're going to beat them. They've got the personnel to beat us.

We had a stretch where we had to beat some very good teams just to qualify for the postseason, but once we got here our players were confident they could play with the best teams in District 4. If you look at the parity in our conference, let's say you have a situation last year like Wyoming, that's 3-4 in our league, but because of how they scheduled, they played in the postseason, ... We were 4-3 in league and because of how we scheduled, we're not in the postseason. Ultimately, you have to beat who you play and execute at that level. But to not address scheduling in that discussion isn't a wise thing to do. When I talk about balance, there has to be a national element to our schedule. It's what is expected at BYU and it's what the standard has been here. Last year, we played three undefeated teams (Boise State, Utah, USC). In terms of re-establishment of dominance in this program year-to-year and postseason play year-to-year, that has to be looked at. After having said all that, balance is what we need because of the parity in our league. It could be realistic that it's 5-3 to win the league. Or 6-2. What about all the teams that are 4-4? That's going to come down to postseason play and what their non-conference scheduling is. Ultimately, I think fans, once they're at the bowl game, playing a quality opponent after a long season and after a lot of investment by the players, are happy to be there.

We're looking forward to a strong, successful season. Last year, we beat everybody we were supposed to beat, and this year we want to do the same, but we also want some bookmark wins. We want to do well in the Blue Division and pull out some wins versus the tougher teams in the league.

They're a good team. They beat us twice this year and they beat us twice last year. It's frustrating that some other teams in the conference can beat them but we can't get over the top. I don't know if it's just the style of play, or what.

We played against one of the top two or three teams in the league. We beat some very, very good teams during the streak. Now we have to try and continue our home dominance.

The Big East championship means a lot to us. If you can go through 16 games in this league and have to go to the places you do and beat the teams you have to beat, it's really tough. This is a terrific league and to come through it 14-2, I couldn't be prouder of our kids.

In my opinion, the Sky-Em's the best league in the state, top to bottom. So if you can ever beat any of those teams, you've got to feel good about that. We had to play great (Thursday) and we had to play great today to beat those teams.

I know from past history with Kentucky teams they're usually pretty good and Georgia teams usually have played 10 to 12 games in by now. I told the boys in order for us to be a good team we've got to beat good teams. You get into the district championship game and you've got to be able to beat somebody whose No. 1.
