 The new prescription drug plan is so convoluted. There is no way in the world someone 75 years old or 80 years old can figure out what is the best plan for them without any help. The [Medicare] Web site helps, but how many 89-year-old seniors do you know that have computers? Mah-jongg, maybe, but they don't have computers.

 Windows get more viruses than Macs and UNIX systems, yes, but Macs are not immune. That's just a fundamental design issue in the operating systems.

 Apple Macs have been in the news for the last few weeks regarding a number of security issues. It's important that all computer users are protected against the latest attacks, and have their computers properly patched against vulnerabilities in the operating system. It would be a mistake to think that security flaws are only found in Microsoft's products.

 We're looking at one vulnerability in Apple's Safari browser, and two worms that can attack Macs across a network. There's one that affects the instant messaging between Macs, and another worm that affects wireless connections. They can go in and put on files that'll interfere with your performance. Once you get in there you can fish out all sorts of information and do all kinds of nasty work.

 About three years ago we were primarily a PC campus and dealt with one vendor. Now both faculty and students are seeing the advantages and versatility of Macs and we're seeing a change-over.

 While the US accounted for over half of all spam sent two years ago, it is now less than a quarter. This shows that more Americans are protecting their home computers from hackers. The reality is simply that more viruses, worms and Trojan horses are being designed to take over innocent users' computers to steal information or send out spam.

 I am especially excited about giving computers common sense. Computers should be able to understand the emotions of humans. As computers begin to understand the human world, they can help us far more efficiently.

 Two years ago, the US accounted for over half of all spam sent to the world - now it is less than a quarter, evidence which confirms that more Americans are waking up to the need to protect their home computers from malicious hackers. More and more viruses, worms and Trojan horses are being designed to take over innocent users' computers with the intention of stealing information and sending out junk email campaigns.

 It's all a win-now philosophy. We've got some old guys on this team. Gary (Payton) ain't got five, six more years left. Shaq ain't got five, six more years left. That is the reason the trade was made. We'd be kidding ourselves if we thought the trade was for us to grow together for the next three years. No, it's not. We understand that.

 I think the majority of the hospitals are still using paper-based [systems]. But many of them are migrating into an electronic record keeping program because they see the benefits of that. The other big piece that contributes to that is hospital IT systems have made significant improvements in the last few years. If we were talking five years ago, not a lot of sterile processing departments had computers in them. Now nearly all of them have computers in areas beyond just the manager?s office. Sterile processing departments really recognize, as we all do in both our personal lives and professional lives, the benefits of using IT technology to make our jobs easier.
